Competitive Proposal - Key Elements I Outstanding ideas in a world-wide context (frontier research) Mature out of the box idea, not me too research Significant advancement beyond state of the art & impact on science, scholarship or engineering Novel, unconventional methods Often of interdisciplinary nature Often high-risk high-gain, yet feasible Needs to be clear that PI is the right person to perform the project Normally ERC projects not easily fundable otherwise http://erc.europa.eu/

Ability to manage people & money (PI) PhD/diploma student supervision Peer recognition (prizes, awards) Integration in international networks AdG: established research leaders (world-wide)! For further benchmarks see the ERC Work Programme www.tc.cz ECHO 2/2013: Bibliometric analysis of Successful ERC StG 2012 Applicants 3-4/2015, 2/2012, 4-5/2010: Interviews with ERC grantees
