This project will provide much needed vocational training, by training a team from the village in the construction and installation of Bio-sand filters. The end result will be improved health for the villagers, and a sellable product that many NGOs are in the market for in that region. Most of the households in the village consume poor quality/ contaminated water. As a test,in August 2008, 3 bio-sand filters were placed in homes choosen by the Rotary Community Corps. In February 2009 Rotarians from districts 5330 and 9200 returned to the village and found marked improvement in the health of the families. They also found the the 3 test families were sharing the filters with other neighboring families and they showed improvements in health as well. 200 families will receive a biosand filter, a minimun of 10 people will learn a vocation and the project will take approximately 1 year to complete Describe how the benefiting community will maintain this project after grant funding has been fully expended.
