Invitation for Submission : the Chartered ICES (HK) Best Photos Awards Competition 2019 Innovation Civil Engineering Surveying To echo the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors (Chartered ICES) 50th Anniversary in year 2019, the Chartered ICES (HK) is pleased to announce that the Chartered ICES (HK) Best Photos Awards Competition 2019 is now opened for submission for all Chartered ICES (HK) members and non-members. The objectives of this awards competition are:- - To promote the innovative development in Civil Engineering Surveying projects. - To inspire participants to explore and share smart civil engineering surveying / technology approaches to advance further development in the Industry. - To improve collaborative working among the parties concerned to achieve excellence in the civil engineering and surveying environment. The photos submitted for the awards should focus on the theme Innovation Civil Engineering Surveying. Innovative technology in civil engineering surveying can facilitate how we plan to built with smart construction and how to make our environment sustainable. It aims to have the awarded photos to demonstrate our civil engineering surveying industry is efficient with advance technology and innovative design for the benefit of the public. The awards will be presented to the awardees in the Chartered ICES Celebration Anniversary Dinner which will take place on 26 April 2019. The Chartered ICES Best Photos Awards Competition 2019 Innovation Civil Engineering Surveying Guidelines for the Competition Eligible Entrants The Best Photos Awards Competition is opened to all classes of Chartered ICES Hong Kong members and non-members are also welcome. (Chartered ICES(HK) task groups and their family members are not allowed to participate in this competition) Submission Requirements Entrants can submit photo/s base on the following criteria :- a) Photos taken using positive/negative film or by digital camera in soft copy are allowed; b) Original photos without additional touch-up are highly recommended. However, due to practicality, simple touch-up after image capture is permitted, e.g. simple cropping, minor adjustments to brightness, contrast, colour balance etc.; c) Composite or synthesized photo/s are not accepted; d) Shoots at locations or workplaces within Hong Kong only; e) All photo/s must be taken recently within the last 2 years; f) No photos should be submitted for the mal-practices or accidents of the industry especially within the construction frontlines; g) Photos must be the true work taken by the entrant/s; h) Award winners will be required to submit the original high-resolution soft copies of the photos for enlargement or display for future events organized by the Chartered ICES (HK). Format and Information of Photos to be submitted a) Photos can be submitted in either colour or monochrome (B&W) prints; b) Submission of photos shall be in soft copies in a CD with files in jpg or png format (soft copies will be for web publishing purposes). Entrants with submissions shortlisted to the final round of assessment will be required to submit hard copies of photos with size 8 x 10 inches (8R). Lamination or mounting is not required; Each photo should have a short title for naming the photo submitted. c) The MAXIMUM NUMBER of entries of each Entrant to be submitted is three (3) photos. Submission Method a) All entries should be submitted by post or by hand to the Chartered ICES (HK) office : Suite 1901-2,19th Floor, Hopewell Centre, 183 Queen s Road East, Wanchai, Hong Kong; b) Please mark on the envelop/packing materials the wording The Chartered ICES (HK) Best Photos Awards Competition 2019 for easy identification during the submission; c) No entry fee is required;
d) The deadline for submission is 5:00pm on 31 January 2019. Late submission will not be accepted; e) Email acknowledgement will be sent to the entrant upon receipt of the Entry Form and the photos. Judging Criteria The awards competition shall follow the below judging criteria as a guideline for assessment :- a) Fulfill the objectives of the awards competition; b) Ability to capture professional image of the industry; c) The story-telling capacity of the image with particular reference to the theme; d) Merits of artistic impression; e) Good description of photos. No appeal mechanism will be provided after the announcement of the results of the competition. The decisions of the judging panel shall be final. Jury Panel 1. Mr. Alan Cheung Shun Kwong, President of Hong Kong Collectors Society Awards Gold Award : A cash prize of HK$5,000.00, a certificate and a seat to join the Chartered Silver Award : A cash prize of HK$3,000.00, a certificate and a seat to join the Chartered Bronze Award : A cash prize of HK$2,000.00, a certificate and a seat to join the Chartered Commendation : A cash prize of HK$1,000.00, a certificate and a seat to join the Chartered Each entrant may obtain the award of only one of the Gold, Silver, Bronze or Commendation, and subject to the final decision of the Judging Panel. The Awards Presentation Ceremony will be held at Chartered ICES (HK) Annual Dinner at The Royal Plaza Hotel of MongKok on 26 April 2019. Photos winning the awards will also
be published in the Chartered ICES (HK) Facebook or other Chartered ICES publications to showcase the achievement of the winners. Credit to the contributor will be made every time when used; 4) Whilst all possible care will be taken in handling the entries, no responsibility will be assumed by Chartered ICES (HK) for loss or damage to the entries during storage, judging and the subsequent exhibitions.
