Massachusetts Midwives Alliance Basic Course In Midwifery Studies 2014-2015 a journey into midwifery
Dedicated to midwifery in its simplest form: The passing on of wisdom form one generation to the next. We honor and cherish the women who continue these traditions The Massachusetts Midwives Alliance Two Year Midwifery Course I am still walking on clouds from how much I loved this class Since 1982, the MMA basic course in midwifery has brought many women into the paths of Midwifery, Childbirth Education, Doula work, and honest self revelation about being a birthing woman in the USA. Our students built wonderful community lasting friendships and potential professional partnerships with their students. They also develop connections with the Massachusetts midwifery community as a whole. Our program focuses on cultivating passionate midwives with the ability to serve diverse communities, and we encourage students to develop their own personal style. We emphasize cultural humility, and we believe that the midwives of the future have a very important role to play in maternal and child health. Through competency based, interactive adult learning, women who join this class learn the basics of midwifery from the MMA midwives. Intensive whole day classes twice a month give you a complete background in midwifery which can start you on the path to becoming a midwife. 2
I have built an amazing network of support to help me on my midwifery path Each class consists of a seminar style presentation on the material studied at home the preceding month. Each class will also consist of a potluck lunch, and usually a skills practicum. Light summer work will be assigned in preparation for the first class. These are full days, so expect to arrive on time and be prepared to run a few minutes over if the material demands it. Due to the intensive nature of the days, only non- - mobile nursing babies will be allowed This class includes a Doula weekend training, Neonatal Resuscitation, CPR, and Childbirth Education. Due to the intensive time demands and self- structured nature of our program, students must be self motivated and ready to learn and share. The course meets two Sundays a month January through June for one and a half Academic years. Classes are held at Birth and Beyond in Jamaica Plain in Boston. Created by midwives, for midwives, the MMA course passes along traditional knowledge enhanced by the latest scientific research. Learn from a diverse group of midwives each bringing her own wisdom and style into the classroom Dedicated to diversity and social responsibility, we aim to empower our students to serve diverse communities and uphold ethical culturally conscious midwifery practices. In person guidance and direction from midwives as you practice a variety of hands on skills used in the clinical setting. ToLabor doula certification is included. Through this three day workshop you can choose to build a doula practice to complement your midwifery education.
