Wednesday, September 17, 2008 The Inn at St. John's Plymouth, Michigan PERSPECTIVES ON PAIN... Pain is a universal experience and yet, when it occurs, an intensely personal one. In recent years, understanding pain and improving pain management have been the focus of much study and effort, resulting in new information and better delineation of challenges that require our attention. The 2008 Conference on Pain will explore various perspectives on pain, and by doing so, increase the knowledge base of practicing clinicians. Participants will learn about evidence-based recommendations for the comprehensive management of pain in older adults, including assessment tools for those who suffer cognitive impairments. Complex issues such as managing breakthrough pain, the intersection of pain with depression and anxiety, and understanding the financial burdens pain can cause will all be explored. This popular conference will provide opportunities to engage in discussions that stimulate critical thinking and develop new perspectives on caring for people with pain. One hour of CE credit in pain management is required for RN/LPN relicensure in Michigan every two years. This program is co-provided by Henry Ford Health System, Michigan State University College of Nursing, St. Joseph Mercy Hospital and Wayne State University College of Nursing, accredited providers of continuing nursing education by the Michigan Nurses Association, an accredited approver of continuing nursing education by the Amercian Nurses Credentialing Center s Commission on Accreditation and by the University of Michigan Health System s Educational Services for Nursing, an accredited provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center s Commission on Accreditation.
