Spring 2019 Internship Program Position Packet Our Mission Urban Ministries of Wake County engages our community to serve and advocate on behalf of those affected by poverty by providing food and nutrition, promoting health and wellness, and by laying the foundations of home. Internship Length Interns commit to 10-15 hours a week for a minimum of 14 weeks from January 7 May 3, 2019. We are flexible with personal vacation, school hours and holidays. Medical internship schedules are Mon Thurs when our clinic is open. Personal transportation (we are not directly on a bus line) If selected, applicant must complete a separate application and attend mandatory Internship Orientation on Friday, January 4, 2019 from 1-3pm. Crisis Support Program Food Pantry/Nutrition Program Intern Nutrition, Public Health Food Insecurity include, but are not limited to the following: Assist clients during the food item selection process, help them optimize nutritional choices Provide operational support to Food Pantry Manager Special project depending on skills and experience, and need Ability to lift 25-40 lbs. without assistance Outgoing, self-motivated, and reliable Able to work independently with limited supervision and with a team of volunteers Development Intern Office Interns This individual will support fundraising initiatives, development of promotional and marketing materials, and social media campaigns. In return, Urban Ministries of Wake County will provide an opportunity for the intern to gain valuable, real work experience with event planning, fundraising and the day-to-day development activities of a nonprofit organization. Research skills, including the ability to analyze and effectively summarize information Volunteer Services/Office Intern The Volunteer Services department is responsible for recruiting and retaining a corps of volunteers that is vital to the operations of Urban Ministries. This individual will support the Manager of Volunteer Services with database management and special projects. In return, Urban Ministries of Wake County will provide an opportunity for the intern to gain valuable, real work experience with volunteer management, day-to-day activities, and project activities of a nonprofit organization. Volunteer Management Non-Profits include, but are not limited to the following: Input new volunteers into volunteer database Assist with creation of volunteer recruitment marketing materials Create and run various reports on volunteerism by program area Ability to communicate via email, phone and in person to current and potential volunteers Administrative support including being the front desk greeter Assist with projects in other departments such as Development Computer literacy (Microsoft Office Suite) Detail-oriented with writing and editing abilities Out-going and enthusiastic team player able to work independently and with a team Research skills, including the ability to analyze and effectively summarize information Health Clinic Program Clinic Assistant Intern The Clinic Assistant Intern serves an integral member of our clinical team, ensuring patients move through the clinic efficiently and effectively. You will be physically located in the middle of the clinic, allowing you to observe and help direct flow of patients and providers in an outpatient setting. Your main responsibility will be checking patients out, so you will be communicating with providers regarding the patients care plans. Spanish proficiency Highly organized, self-motivated, clear communication skills Personable (as you will mostly likely be interacting with patients) Ability to work both cooperatively within a team and independently with limited supervision Clinical Records Intern This individual will be involved in all aspects of patient health information, including paper and electronic medical records. They will learn and utilize regulatory requirements in the documentation of protected health information and management of said information. Health Care Management include, but are not limited to the following: Review and process Medical Records requests Prepare patient letters, including routine follow-up and lab results Scan, properly name, and upload documents into patient s Electronic Medical Records (EMR) Support the clinical team, assisting with other essential tasks as needed Outgoing and enthusiastic team player able to work independently and with a team Familiar with EMR programs Clinic Scribe Intern The Clinic Scribe Intern serves a vital role for our providers, ensuring accurate and complete documentation of patient encounters. As a Clinic Scribe Intern, you will actively support our medical providers in the use of Electronic Medical Records (EMR). include, but are not limited to the following: Creating patient encounters in the EMR system, including clinical notes and discharge instructions Entering provider orders for vaccines, laboratory Accessing electronic documents and scanning paper files into the EMR system Familiar with EMR programs Keen attention to detail Independent and assertive, comfortable communicating during high stress situations Available either Tuesday and Thursday (5pm-8pm); or Monday and Wednesday (1p-4p); or Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from (9:30am-12pm). 4 P a g e 2019 S p r i n g I n t e r n s h i p
Scribe Interns must be available for training after the Internship Orientation from 1:30 4:30pm. This is a mandatory requirement for the Scribe Internship; please confirm your ability to attend both the orientation and training session in your cover letter. Laboratory Data Triage Assistant Intern The Lab Data Triage Intern will assist the Clinic Manager and clinic staff with administrative and documentation support, critical in the delivery of high quality care to our patients. include, but are not limited to the following: Receive and evaluate incoming lab data Identify and prioritize critical lab values Collaborate with medical team regarding next steps when appropriate, seeking clarification from MD or RN as necessary Perform manual lab data entry into patient charts Experience working with laboratory data Familiarity with critical lab values highly desirable Detail oriented, able to work independently with minimal supervision Patient Assistance Program Intern The Patient Assistance Program Intern will assist the Patient Assistance Program Coordinator and the pharmacist in ordering medications for clinic patients. As an intern, you will help ensure a continuous supply of medication for the Open Door Clinic Pharmacy. Intern will help with the re-order of medications from pharmaceutical companies and track medication requests online through The Pharmacy Connection (TPC). TPC is the program used to track the status of all patients PAP medications. Assist Patient Assist pharmacy staff with unpacking medication orders, monitoring inventory, and general pharmacy operations Provide assistance with other special projects as deemed appropriate Proficiency with basic computer applications (ex. Microsoft Office) Detail-oriented, personable, and organized Access To Care Intern The Access to Care Intern will interact with our diverse patient population to assist them in obtaining access to medical care such as medicals visits, free medications, and referrals. This position allows you to interact one on one with our patients, get to know their stories, and assist them in bettering their health with the smallest gestures. Non-Profit, Social Work Ability to practice basic fluent Spanish speaking skills (not a requirement) include, but are not limited to the following: Assisting with checking in clients for their appointments and clinic flow Scheduling appointments with prospective and current patients Conduct one-on-one interviews with current and prospective patients Educating patients on the policies and requirements to continue receiving services in the Open Door Clinic Assisting the Access to Care Manager and Access to Care Coordinators with tasks as assigned : Personable, organized, and self-motivated Excellent customer service skills Proficient in Microsoft Office and Windows Referral Processor Intern The Referral Process Intern will assist the Manager of Patient Care Services with the processing of patient referrals; intern will be working with outside charitable care resources for medical services not available in the Open Door Clinic.
