BACHELOR OF SCIENCE WITH HONOURS IN NURSING

SIT-UofG Joint Degree Bachelor of Science with Honours in Nursing ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY OF GLASGOW Founded in 1451, the University of Glasgow (UofG) is the fourth-oldest university in the English-speaking world and is in the top 1% of universities in the world. UofG is a member of the distinguished Russell Group, comprising the United Kingdom s 24 leading research-intensive universities, and is also a founding member of Universitas 21 a network of universities established as an international reference point and resource for strategic thinking on issues of global significance. UofG students graduate with the skills they need to compete in a global workplace, and with friendships and networks that last a lifetime. UofG has inspired thinkers from eminent scientist Lord Kelvin and distinguished engineer James Watt to father of economics Adam Smith, and counts seven Nobel Laureates amongst its alumni. UofG sustains a broad portfolio of leading-edge research funded by industry, research councils and governmental agencies. PROGRAMME INFORMATION The Bachelor of Science with Honours in Nursing is a two-year post-registration programme jointly offered by Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) and the University of Glasgow (UofG). The nursing programme has been co-created and designed with inputs from practice partners and the Ministry of Health. It will be seeking accreditation from the Singapore Nursing Board (SNB). This degree programme builds on the foundation that students have established during their nursing diploma studies. The aim of the programme is to develop critical, analytical and innovative skills, as well as leadership, research, teaching, and clinical competencies. Through the programme s applied learning approach, graduates will be able to translate new nursing knowledge into practice. CURRICULUM STRUCTURE The SIT-UofG Nursing programme has a range of modules designed to equip students with relevant knowledge and skills that will help them meet the healthcare challenges of Singapore and take the nursing profession forward. They will learn to analyse personal and professional values, and make sound, evidence-based and ethical decisions that will prepare them for leadership roles.

There is an emphasis on integration of knowledge and practice in the delivery of patient care. It also includes module-focussed clinical placement in hospitals and the community throughout the programme. In addition, the overseas clinical observation will provide students with an opportunity to learn about the healthcare provision and system in Scotland. Besides developing theoretical knowledge and clinical skills, students will gain an insight into health and social policies, and apply innovation in healthcare, as well as strengthen their skills in interdisciplinary collaboration and partnerships. In addition, elements of the SIT-DNA are embedded throughout the curriculum, shaping graduates who are thinking tinkerers, able to learn, unlearn and re-learn, catalysts for transformation, and grounded in the community.

CLINICAL PRACTICE EDUCATION [INTEGRATED WORK STUDY PROGRAMME (IWSP)] In this programme, students are expected to complete a total of six weeks of clinical education and four weeks of overseas immersion in Glasgow, Scotland (UK). The six-week clinical placements are embedded within specific modules, namely Health Assessment and Clinical Reasoning, Health Innovation and Informatics, and Teaching and Learning. Students are required to complete a Consolidated Nursing Practice module that allows them to critically reflect on all clinical experiences during the programme. It is mandatory for all students to complete the Overseas Immersion Programme (OIP) during which they have to attend two weeks of taught seminars and two weeks of clinical observation in an overseas context.
