Men s Auxiliary Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a great holiday. On December 19th the Men's Auxiliary hosted a Children's Christmas Party. It was a huge success. The children had a great time with cookie decorating, games and of course "Santa. I want to thank Barbara Foley for organizing the event, Patrick Foley for the great job he did playing Santa, Pat Hackley of Gingersnap Photography for taking the pictures of the kids with Santa and Dixie Johnson for the beautiful bounty of cookies that she baked for the event. We hope to make this an annual event. We will be having our famous Steak Dinner Nights in January and February. We sold out at the last steak night so come early. Check the calendar for those dates. I need all Men's Auxiliary members to come to the January meeting. There are urgent business issues that need to be addressed. On a very sad note, Tommy Smithhisler passed away on December 17th. Tommy was an icon and will be missed greatly. Also, Kathleen "Dean" Owens passed away on November 5th. Check your calendar for upcoming Pub Nights or call the Post to find out when they are. Terence B. Foley, Mens Auxiliary President Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season and that the New Year is full of good health and happiness for everyone. Thanks to all the elves who donated to Toys for Tots. As you know, the primary goal of Toys for Tots is to deliver, through a new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to less fortunate youngsters that will assist them in becoming responsible, productive, patriotic citizens. Your generous donations helped them achieve their goal. We are collecting Labels for Education again this year. Please save your product UPC labels and drop them off at the Post Home, marked for Kathy Bennett. The labels are mailed to the VFW National Home to help them work toward their goals. The labels for 2015-2016 that are eligible are posted below. The joint service of VFW Post 2562 and American Legion Post 268 was held at Veterans Park on November 11. Many came out and showed support for our veterans and those currently wearing the uniforms of the Armed Services. Don t forget that Chaplain Marj Johns wants to hear from you about anyone who is ill, in the hospital, or having a birthday. She can be reached at (301) 871-7980. Our next Auxiliary meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 26, 2016, at 6:30 p.m. The future is not set, there is no fate but what we make for ourselves (Irish proverb). Putting you in control of your disability claim Last month, VA reached a historic low in the disability claims backlog by dipping below 100,000 to 98,535 and the number of these claims (pending more than 125 days) has come down even further since. This milestone means that VA is processing disability claims faster and more efficiently so that Veterans, their families, and Survivors get the benefits they deserve. By participating in the Fully Developed Claims program, Veterans and Survivors can take charge of their claims by submitting all relevant records with their claims at once. The fastest way to receive a decision on your disability claim is by filing an FDC electronically through ebenefits.va.gov. Visit VA s website to learn more about filing an electronic Fully Developed Claim and what you can do to get started.
