Healthy Living and Active Ageing KIC The new KIC is a part of EIT s contribution to general objectives of Horizon 2020 EU s new framework programme for research and innovation, during 2014-2020; Healthy Living and Active Ageing is a key strategic objective HLAA KIC will work alongside three existing KICs ( Climate- KIC ; ICT Labs ; InnoEnergy ; started operating in 2010) ; One other KIC during 2014: Raw Materials ; Two more in 2016 ( Food4Future, and Added Value Manufacturing ) and fifth one in 2018 ( Urban mobility ).

Why Healthy Living and Active Ageing? Health will be a major international business as national GDP commitments to health grow around the world. Ageing is largest single social and demographic change. The OneMoreLife approach treats this as a wide life long social challenge, not just a medical problem of old age UK Government committed to health care business expansion (both NHS based and private sector), in Innovation, Health and Wealth this is seen as key growth area for UK economy
The goals for the 2014 KIC Innovation for Healthy Living and Active Ageing Improve the quality of life of European citizens of all ages and maintain economic sustainability of the health and social care systems This is in the face of increasing costs, shrinking human resources and citizens expectations for the best care possible.

KIC Funding Overall EIT KIC funding is 2.7bn over 7 years/7 KICs to be initiated over this period. Start up phase funding usually.5m for initial year (2015). Funding bid for HLAA KIC from 2016-70m pa Each HLAA Co-Location Centre should get EIT support of between 14m and 17.5m pa (depending on no/size of CLC s). Match spend of 42m - 52.5m pa. UoS part of UK CLC? Approx 3-5m pa ( 21-35m over 7 years)??

KIC must adopt a business-oriented approach Each KIC has its own legal entity and an appointed CEO, together with the Executive Board. Each KIC sets out short-term and long-term targets, milestones for activities, with annual KPIs. An entrepreneurial culture required in which KICs develop revenue streams and a portfolio of assets (e.g equity stakes in new start-ups, licencing deals, IP ownership). The long-term cooperation between EIT and each KIC will be formalised within a seven-year FPA
