THE FOUNDATION AT WORK HOSPITALITY CAREERS ACADEMY The Hospitality Careers Academy is a summer opportunity for high school students interested in a career in hospitality and tourism. During the week long Academy, students will listen to guest speakers in the industry, participate in job shadowing and industry tours, take part in team-building and leadership activities, all while working toward the culminating project that integrates the skills and information they have gained throughout the week. The event the students create is always an inspiring one and wouldn t be possible without the Foundation s support be sure to mark your calendars to attend this great event! ART Long Shadows on Washington Street Bob Brussack The Classic Center Cultural Foundation invests in art to adorn the walls of The Classic Center, which provides an intangible but extra dimension to daily life. From our permanent collection to the temporary exhibit by curator Didi Dunphy, we invite you to walk the halls of The Classic Center and enjoy this art by the artists of our community. BREAD FOR LIFE The Classic Center Cultural Foundation is proud to partner with Bread for Life, a non-profit organization that brings together leaders in the local hospitality industry as instructors, a talented and experienced baker to oversee production, an experienced teacher to direct the educational program, a dedicated crew of volunteers, and students who have the desire to embark on a career path that will lift them and their families out of poverty. This recipe for success combines a classroom curriculum plus hands-on paid work training to prepare graduates for a viable, sustainable career. SCHOLARSHIPS One of the goals of The Classic Center Cultural Foundation is to support the youth in our community in their study of the arts. The Foundation awards $2,000 scholarships annually in the areas of performing and culinary arts. $500 is also awarded to each of the recipients' school programs. 2016 SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS Gracie Atsma Bailey Baker Simon Beckham Linsey Chen Blake McNeal Cylvie Patterson GRANTS Each year the Foundation offers local community groups the opportunity to apply for a grant to aid them in accessing The Classic Center.
