His versatile background has given him a broad understanding of the contingent workforce and a unique ability to address the issues that arise in connection with it. George currently works with staffing firms, permanent placement employment agencies, professional employer organizations, and companies that use staffing services, handling the legal aspects of the employment relationship. His practice specifically focuses on matters involving: The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act The Hiring Incentives to Restore Employment Act Internal Revenue Code 414(n) Internal Revenue Code 105(h) Professional Employer Organization (PEO) laws Franchising laws He also has specific knowledge and experience about contractual and regulatory matters involving franchising and the new health care reform law. He is currently engaged in an employment law-related project that heavily involves redistributing employment relationships within franchise systems. 1
In addition to frequent speaking engagements before the staffing industry and its customers, George has offered countless training and information presentations to corporate managers and staff on issues of employment law, contracting for contingent labor, and other topics. He also provides employment counseling on a wide range of topics. Prior to working at Littler Mendelson, George held a wide range of positions related to employment. For 34 years, he worked as general counsel for one employee benefits broker firm and four national/international staffing firms, handling all legal issues for those businesses, including employment law, corporate governance, litigation management, commercial law, franchising, and securities regulation and public company compliance. He also served as First Lieutenant in the U. S. Army's Adjutant General Corps, where he administered the organization's first systematic drug abuse testing program. In law school, he was executive editor of the University of Florida Law Review.
