Chesapeake Speaks! Chesapeake Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates www.csgna.org FEBRUARY 2010 Page 1 As we are entering our 29 th year as CSGNA, I am pleased to serve as your president for 2010. To be honest, I did have some trepidation last year when I was nominated as the President Elect, but after some thinking I came to the conclusion that it was time for me to give back to the organization that has given me so much.. I personally am grateful to SGNA and the CSGNA for not only igniting my passion for GI nursing more than 25 years ago, but, moreover, keeping the flame alive. Besides the educational aspects, the networking opportunity has been invaluable, not to mention the friends I have made. It has been my experience that the more effort you make to grow in your profession the more you get out of it; that includes continually educating yourself and practicing and sharing what you learn. The CSGNA has enabled me to do just that and I am pleased to be able to give back by serving on the board alongside the other dedicated board and committee members. An organization is only as strong as its members and I am happy to say that we are off to a good start thanks to the strong foundation we stand on. 2009 was a successful year for us as we were not only able to grow our membership but also our vendor support. Thanks to that support and the hard work of the education committee and board members, our members were able to enjoy an excellent multiregional Delmarva conference last Spring in Delaware, several dinner meetings and a successful Fall educational meeting at Suburban Hospital. We also revamped our website enabling up to date event information, easier registration and better communication. We can look forward to an exciting year starting with the Delmarva Spring educational meeting in Charlottesville, Va on March 20-21. Next, we will have a dinner meeting to celebrate GI Nurses Day on March 24 at Inova Fairoaks Hospital - with no cost to the members for the dinner. Several other meetings are in the planning stages and I would like to invite you all to be a part of it. Please check our website: www.csgna.org for information on our next planning meeting. I encourage you to get involved; you will not regret it! Please feel free to contact me for any questions, comments or suggestions. Thank you, Hettie C Mercer Hettie Mercer MSN, RN, CGRN hmercer@verizon.net Telephone: 703.437.8938

CSGNA is a dynamic group of almost 300 and we need you!!! The Board of Directors is very fortunate to have some wonderful dedicated nurses who need your help. We especially need help with the education committee and will need a new treasurer in 2011. There are plenty of us old folks who are willing to mentor and help, but we need new, young, fresh ideas. I promise you that you will receive so much more out of this than you give. Please think about it and call me or anyone else and we ll be glad to talk to you about what you might enjoy doing. Help us continue to set CSGNA up for success. Cathy Dykes Page 3
