Regional Leadership Development Conference SOCIETY OF HISPANIC PROFESSIONAL ENGINEERS April 12-15, 2018

2018 Host: Fresno, California Fresno State The 2018 RLDC will be hosted at Fresno State. Workshops will be held throughout the campus, which will showcase different areas Fresno State offers. Fresno, California Fresno is the heart of California s Central Valley and it is with pride that the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) Fresno Professional Chapter and Student Chapter will host the 2018 Regional Leadership Development Conference (RLDC). With Over 50% of Hispanics and Latinos, the city of Fresno is an ideal location to host Region 1. The diverse culture and booming STEM industry are great attributes to boast and demonstrate why Fresno is a leading city of California. Region 1 SHPE s Region 1 consists of five different states: Northern California, Northern Nevada, Alaska, Oregon and Washington. Both professionals and students will travel from all five states to attend the 2018 Regional Leadership Development Conference. Lyles College of Engineering Fresno State Lyles College of Engineering not only will host scheduled workshops and events, but they are in full support of hosting the 2018 RLDC. Lyles College of Engineering s Dean, Dr. Ram Nunna, understands the need for Fresno SHPE to gain the experience in being a leader for Region 1 and show the hosting capabilities we have to offer. The SHPE Student Chapter at Fresno State Lyles College of Engineering consists of 55 student members! The SHPE Student Chapter cabinet will not oversee the 2018 RLDC event so they can get the opportunity to gain knowledge of how to be a leader, develop networking skills and be bold with leading their student members. Instead, the 2018 RLDC Committee will run this event so the Student Chapter can enjoy like our guests. The 2018 RLDC Committee consists of all Fresno State Lyles College of Engineering students as well as Fresno SHPE Chapter leaders. 2018 Host: Fresno SHPE Chapter Fresno Chapter SHPE members are brought together by heritage, social responsibility and the despite to improve the equality of all people using science and technology. SHPE values excellence in education, professional pursuits and leadership, obtaining excellence through integrity, empowerment, achievement, diversity and continuous improvement. Chapter Vision Within the Central Valley, the SHPE Fresno Chapter aims to be the main influence and driving force of STEM within the Hispanic community. This includes providing assistance, guidance, and mentorship to all students in the SHPE Pipeline. Conference Goals The primary goal of the conference is to make sure all participants gain significant value from their participation. For Corporate Partners To highlight high quality talent available within Region 1. For Corporate Attendees To obtain resources and tools needed to be a stronger leader within the SHPE Organization. All the information gained from the conference should be applicable and relevant to help strengthen and sustain participating SHPE Region 1 chapters. For Participating Regional SHPE Chapters To obtain the ability to network with all regional chapters and pass down lessons learned. For the Host Chapter, and the Related University Chapter in the Region To highlight the Central Valley and all the strong leadership figures that are currently influencing the community. Be Bold! The purpose for the 2018 RLDC Conference is BE BOLD. This theme aligns with the vision and mission of our local university, which drives to produce the next generation of leaders within the Central Valley. Bold is an attitude that moves ideas, opportunities and people beyond convention, obstacles and naysayers, to success. Being bold inspires leaders and transformation because it tests the limits and possibilities in a positive, results-oriented way that is focused on the greater good for our community. -Joseph I. Castro (President, Fresno State University) Being Bold is a theme that should resonate with all conference participants regardless of which section of the SHPE pipeline that may fall under. Being Bold is a lifestyle, which energizes great leaders to propel their vision into reality. It is our goal that whether the attendee is K-12, undergraduate/graduate, or professional, they understand what it truly means to Be Bold, and how they can utilize it in everyday life to push them forward in their prospective careers.
