Metro Ministries, Inc. Proposed Strategic Direction 2013 Vision Statement: Metro Ministries, Inc., will be the preeminent organization in Central Indiana for assisting, supporting, and leading United Methodist congregations in realizing their visions to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. Mission Statement: Metro Ministries, Inc. - working in conjunction with the Central District office, its member congregations, lay and clergy leaders - connects resources to ministries and ministries to resources for the cause of Christ. Proposed Strategic Direction Aim 1: Refine Mission (Narrow Focus of Mission and Strategy) Goal 1.1: Executive Director and Metro Board of Directors connect with leadership especially lay leaders, mission chairs and pastors through churches, clusters and Indiana Conference staff to connect resources to ministries to interpret Metro Ministries focus and relevancy awareness Objective 1.1.1: Connections made with church leadership especially lay leaders, mission chairs and pastors through churches and clusters Objective 1.1.2: Connections made with Indiana Conference staff e.g. mission and advocacy, etc. Goal 1.2: Provide grants to churches, clusters, and community ministries for the purpose of making disciples of Jesus Christ narrowing the focus to: Leadership Development Risk Taking Mission and Service Radical Hospitality Objective 1.2.1: Target churches and community ministries to apply for grant funds, and learn grant writing skills and seek a connection with resources. Provide training opportunities and convene summer youth leaders Use a holistic approach to summer youth grants require full participation Objective 1.2.2: Connect helping hands ministries Risk Taking Mission & Service Connect youth and youth leaders with Neighbor to Neighbor or other service organizations Pursue youth service projects rural to city; city to rural teaching opportunities Connect Ministry Sites to INUMC Youth Mission Trip July 2013 Connect to Mission Outreach at Annual Conference Aim 2: Clarify Communications (Increasing relevancy and awareness, promote service offerings) Goal 2.1: Become a convening and an organization on the edge Leadership Development Objective 2.1.1: Provide leadership development o Develop practice of risk taking mission and service o Become a catalyst to support fundraising Objective 2.1.2:

Provide Vida Nueva with Support in leadership and board development Provide Brightwood with support in leadership and board development Provide support for new community ministries using obtained models. Objective 2.1.3.: Convene mission outreach groups inside and outside of Central District Goal 2.2: Promote Metro Ministries Service Offerings (awards program, grants opportunities, church resource development and leadership development workshops, community ministries) Objective 2.2.1: Consistently use social networking (Twitter, Face book, LinkedIn, YouTube) Objective 2.2.2: Create and Distribute Video Presentations Promo Video for INUMC Conference Mission Outreach Summer Youth Grant Video Objective 2.2.3: Continue to increase relevancy of Metro Website Aim 3: Strengthen Relationships (Develop More Effective Relationships) Goal 3.1: Target Relationships Objective 3.1.1: Executive Director and Metro Board of Directors present at churches, UMM, UMW, and clusters about grant opportunities as well as raising funds for grants and other resources Objective 3.1.2: Board members work in mission and ministry with sponsored programs throughout Central Indiana Goal 3.2: Provide Board Development Opportunities Objective 3.2.1: Provide 10-15 minute board development training at each Metro Board meeting Objective 3.2.2: Identify prospective board members with passion for Metro Ministries strategic direction Improve member cultivation and incorporate it as a process. During building relationship opportunities at churches, cluster meetings and community ministry event begin identifying persons. Objective 3.2.3: Provide an incoming board member orientation

Objective 1.1.1 Connections made with church leadership especially lay leaders, mission chairs and pastors through churches and clusters with the Metro Board will connect with 5 churches or clusters each quarter. 2. Objective 1.1.2 Connections made with Indiana Conference staff e.g. mission and advocacy, etc. Board members with the Metro Board will meet with an INUMC staff member once a quarter. 3. Objective 1.2.1 Target churches and community ministries to apply for grant funds, and learn grant writing skills. Provide training opportunities and convene summer youth leaders Use a holistic approach to summer youth grants require full participation Board members and the matching grant committee will work with two summer program events convening summer youth leaders and work with matching grant process. 4. Objective 1.2.2 Connect helping hands ministries Risk Taking Mission & Service Connect youth and youth leaders with Neighbor to Neighbor or other service organizations Pursue youth service projects rural to city; city to rural teaching opportunities Connect to Mission Outreach at Annual Conference 5. Objective 2.1.1 Provide leadership development Develop practice of risk taking mission and service Become a catalyst to support fundraising 6. Objective 2.1.2 Provide Vida Nueva with Support in leadership and board development Provide Brightwood with support in leadership and board development Provide support for new community ministries using obtained models. Provide support to INUMC mission outreach with leadership. One pilot project for youth leaders. Lisa will lead in leadership training within Central District January 2013. Lisa will serve on the Vida Nueva leadership development team for 18 months to provide financial stability.

7. Objective 2.1.3 Convene mission outreach groups both inside and outside of Central District 8. Objective 2.2.1 Consistently use social networking (Twitter, Face book, LinkedIn, YouTube) members will meet in least two districts outside of Central District Lisa will weekly submit FB, Twitter and enews postings. 9. Objective 2.2.2 Create and Distribute Video Presentations Promo Video for INUMC Conference Mission Outreach Summer Youth Grant Video 10. Objective 2.2.3: Continue to increase relevancy of Metro Website Lisa will provide support for video scripts and story boards. Quarterly updates will be made the basic website set up. 11. Objective 3.1.1: Executive Director and Metro Board of Directors present at churches, UMM, UMW, and clusters about grant opportunities as well as raising funds for grants and other resources 12. Objective 3.1.2: Board members work in mission and ministry with sponsored programs throughout Central Indiana 13. Objective 3.2.1: Provide 10-15 minute board development training at each Metro Board meeting Lisa and Board members will present at various cluster, charge conference and church opportunities. members will participate in UMW and other agency events. Quarter board development will be presented at board meetings. 14. Objective 3.2.2: Identify prospective board members with passion for strategic direction Improve member cultivation and incorporate it as a process. During building relationship opportunities at churches, cluster meetings and community ministry event begin identifying persons. members will identify four more board members in the next months to bring the board maximum up nearer to 20. 15. Objective 3.2.3: Provide an incoming board member orientation Within the first quarter of 2013 a Metro new board orientation will be held.
