Welcome to the Helios Klinik Hattingen Center of rehabilitation for Neurology Neurosurgery Neuropaediatrics Patient Handbook www.helios-gesundheit.de

Dear patient, Welcome to the Helios Klinik Hattingen! The following information will help you orient yourself in the first few days. Admission During your admission, our ward doctors and therapists will talk to you to determine what weaknesses or deficiencies caused your illness. We ll discuss important goals you would like to reach. Your therapy will begin on the second day of your stay at the latest, and your therapy plan will always be adjusted to your progress. To make this happen, employees from all professional groups form interdisciplinary teams and exchange ideas in regular discussions. Who s who You will meet the following employees during the daily routine in the ward. Nurses They are your contact people in the ward if you need nursing care. Each ward team is led by a head nurse you will get to know during your visit. Ward doctor Every ward will have a doctor at your disposal. She/he will meet you during your medical admission consultation or introduce herself/himself the next day. The medical ward visits take place weekly. You can find out the visiting days in your ward or get them from your therapy plan. A house physician is always reachable through the on-call service. Medical consultations take place by appointment; please contact the ward assistant if you wish to schedule one. Senior physicians / head physician You will get to know the senior physician when he or the head doctor makes his visits. Ward therapists, ward team The ward team consists of doctors, nurses, therapists and our social service workers. They exchange important information for planning your treatment in weekly meetings. The ward doctor and ward therapists lead the team and decide on the components of your therapy, which will be adjusted according to your progress. The number of your therapies is fixed. Ward assistants The ward assistants draw blood, organise transportation and appointments (e.g., with the ward physician or the hairdresser), and more. They can 2

answer many questions and will meet you Monday through Friday mornings at the nursing care bases. Fetch-and-carry services For individual therapy, the therapist will pick you up himself, unless you have made other arrangements with him. The employees from the fetchand-carry service take you to your group therapy if this is not administered in the ward. Please stop in your room or in your ward shortly before beginning therapy. Patient service The patient service staff supports you on the day you arrive. They will answer your questions about accommodation facilities and optional services (telephone, internet, single room). We wish you a successful recovery on behalf of all employees. With kind regards, Dirk Rottwinkel Clinic Director Axel Petershofer, M.D. Medical Director 3
