1 SCHOLARSHIP PROGARM 2019 At, we strive for academic excellence and are exceptionally proud of our students. During the course of the 2018 school year, students currently in Grade 6 will be able to apply for a range of WPSC 2019 scholarships. Scholarship Overview: Applicants will only be selected if they choose WPSC on their Secondary 2019 preference sheet. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of an interview, involving the applicant and a parent, held at the College together with additional information provided by the student s current school. Students are not required to sit an entry examination. All scholarships are subject to enrolment at WPSC and are payable after enrolment. These will be credited to the student s College account. Electronic devices awarded are retained by the student. Scholarships on offer: Subject scholarships (Art, Performing Arts, Sport, STEM and Music), will be awarded in a money amount contributed to the student s college account. Sustainability, Community Involvement and General Excellence scholarships will be awarded in a money amount contributed to the student s college account. Academic Excellence scholarship recipients will be awarded with an ipad. ICT scholarship will be in the form of an ipad for the student/s to retain and use for schooling purposes. Selection Process: Application An application form must be completed (attached). These are also available from Primary School teachers or can be located on the college website: http://www.westernportsc.vic.edu.au/enrolment/transition/ The application must clearly state which scholarship the student is applying for. 2 Interviews Interviews will be held in the College boardroom from the 4th June 2018 by appointment only. Students should be accompanied to this interview by a parent or guardian. Students may bring any supporting material, pieces of work that they are proud of, reports or a portfolio. Successful Applicants Successful applicants will be notified through mail. 4 LEADERS IN TRAINING 2019 is situated within a strong sporting community. At Western Port Secondary College, we pride ourselves on our sporting facilities and strong sport emphasis. Our Leaders in Training Program caters for young athletes and those passionate about sport who wish to further develop their skills and tactics, overall fitness as well as develop leadership qualities for both on and off the sporting field. Students in the Leaders in Training Program will: Be involved in a range of leadership opportunities and will be proud to represent the College at a number of events. Strong emphasis on athlete development including games and tactics, skill development and overall fitness training Leadership development days and training Program Expectations Years 7-9: The Curriculum is designed to promote: Excellence for students in Years 7-9 catering for individual needs. Students will develop qualities within themselves to enhance their physical abilities as athletes and leaders within and outside of the classroom Strong Health and PE focus within curriculum to prepare students for HPE subjects in VCE. High level of extra curriculum involvement to enhance skills in leadership. A review of student placement in the Leaders in Training Program will be conducted annually. Selection Process: Application Students to outline within the application their proudest academic, sporting and leadership achievements. Students are also required to forward a letter of recommendation from a teacher to demonstrate motivation, attitude and ability. 5 Shortlisting Students will be shortlisted based on their overall attitude, academic commitment, leadership experience, sporting involvement (in or outside of school) and extra-curricular involvement. WPSC will contact referees including Principals and Grade 6 teachers. Interview Process Students that are successfully shortlisted will be invited to the College for an interview with the Principal, Transition Coordinator and the Leaders in Training Director. Parents are encouraged to attend. Students will be required to bring a Portfolio to the interview containing:- Past school reports Academic Achievements Sporting achievements Leadership and community involvement Other awards Successful Applicants Successful applicants will be notified through mail. 7 YOUTH EXCELLENCE STREAM YES PROGRAM 2019 At, academic excellence and personalised learning is our priority. During the course of the 2017 school year, Grade 6 students that have applied to enroll at WPSC will have the opportunity to apply for a position in our Youth Excellence Stream- YES Program 2019. Students in the YES Program 2019 will: Be involved in a range of leadership opportunities and will be proud to represent the College at a number of events. Be proven strong academically in literacy and numeracy across the curriculum. Independent learners and are conscientious about their class work. Program Expectations Years 7-9: The Curriculum is designed to promote: Excellence for students in Years 7-9 catering for individual needs. Students will develop skills that prepare them for early entry into VCE subjects. YES students are encouraged to study a VCE subject in Year 10. A review of student placement in the YES program will be conducted annually. Selection Process: Application Expressions of interest must be submitted (attached). They can also comment on activities they participate in outside school hours.
