The EC programme aimed at building competitive industries, better societies and excellence in science Support projects that will bridge the gap between research and market From 2014-2020 with a budget of 80 B Calls for proposals, topics specified (SSH cross cutting), except for training and mobility Excellence-based criteria Collaborative research, consortia with European partners Key: Find what is in call for proposals for you, find best European partners to work with preferably those for whom call was written and those who have successful projects

WHAT IS EUREKA? An intergovernmental network established in 1985 to promote international, marketoriented research and innovation Market oriented: Research results must be a marketable product, process or service for national use Financed through national and regional public and private funding Bottom-up: no thematic restriction Eligibility Support to small and medium-sized enterprises (SME), large industry, universities and research institutes performing Product should be commercialised either at the end of the project, or by 2 years post project end date All project should be led by an SME from any of the member countries (including SA) SA + 1 other member country but excluding South Korea and Canada (AM) Individual projects: small, shorter-term projects that will result in a product, process or service with a significant advance in a specific sector. Calls open throughout Cluster project: medium-term, strategically-significant initiatives, develop generic technologies of key importance to participating member countries, calls twice a year normally with 2 cut off dates

EUROSTARS PROGRAMME The first joint EUREKA-EU funding and support programme for R&Dperforming SMEs (2007-2013) Calls launched under H2020 At least two Eurostars participating countries (Croatia, Cyprus, Czech, Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Portugal, Romania, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Algeria, Belgium the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, and Bulgaria) South Africa newest member of Eurostars (March 2016) Consortium leader must be an R&D-performing SME which undertake at least 50% of total R&D activities and cost The consortium must be well-balanced, with no country responsible for more than 75% of project costs Project duration of up to three years Market introduction should be planned within two years of project completion Next call will be in June closing in September 2016

ESASTAP 2020 A dedicated platform for the enhancement of European-South African Scientific and technological cooperation Co-funded by the EC through H2020, and the DST 4 th phase (ESASTAP, ESASTAP 2, ESASTAP PLUS, ESASTAP 2020) and more partners on board ESASTAP 2020 services Facilitate and promote on RDI cooperation in areas of common interests (mainly through Horizon 2020 but also other programmes). Support the SA-EU S&T policy dialogues (JSTCC, innovation policy dialogue, information society, space, marine research etc) Coordinate EU Member and Associated States activities with South Africa Provision of a cooperation platform and tools to alleviate obstacles for SA-EU partnerships and collaborations.
