OPD on the Beat Reports February 2017 Suspect Arrested In Assault With A Knife On Monday, February 27, 9:55 a.m. Oakland police officers were dispatched to 1900 block of Myrtle Street on a report of an assault with a knife and vandalism. Responding officers were able to locate and arrest the suspect and recovered a knife used in the assault. Suspect Arrested In Robbery Of Business On Monday, February 27, 7:50 a.m., Oakland police officers responded to the 4000 block of Piedmont Avenue on a report of a strong armed robbery at a business. The suspect robbed the business and fled the scene. Responding officers arrived and took the suspect into custody. The victim s loss was recovered. Suspect Arrested For A Shooting On Sunday, February 26, at 3:08 p.m., officers responded to the 7300 block of Lockwood to investigate a report of a shooting. Officers contacted the victim and witnesses who provided suspect information. Officers worked with Felony Assault Investigators and together were able to obtain a Ramey warrant. The next day officers and investigators were able to safely arrest the suspect. Suspect Arrested In Attempted Stabbing On Sunday, February 26, 1:32 p.m., Oakland police officers responded to the 1000 block of 16th Street on a report of an attempted stabbing. The victim provided the suspect s information to responding officers. On February 27, with the assistance of the victim, officers located the suspect and were able to take the suspect into custody. Suspect Arrested For A Shooting On Saturday, February 25, at 8:00 p.m., Oakland police officer responded to the 1200 block of Seminary Avenue to investigate a shooting. Upon arrival officers discovered a crime scene. No one had been struck, but the vehicle sustained gunfire damage. Information provided by the victim led officers to the location of the suspect, who was safely arrested. Suspects Arrested And Charged For Murder On Friday, February 24, the Alameda County District Attorney s Office charged Jabari Jones and Breshawn Clark for the murder of 55-yearold Phillip Low. Low was robbed, physically assaulted, and murdered on Wednesday, February 22, 2017, at 8:09 a.m. in the 1000 block of 12th Street. The investigation quickly led to the arrests of 19-year-old Jones, on the day of the murder, and 18-year-old Clark on Thursday, February 23. Homicide Suspect Arrested And Charged By DA On February 21, the Alameda County District Attorney s Office charged Jovante Maurice Stevens, 19, of Antioch, in connection with the double murder of Wayne Lee Barfield, 21, and a 17-year-old male victim, both of Oakland. This double murder occurred on December 21, 2015, at 8:55 p.m., in the 800 block of 32nd Street. Stevens was arrested by the Oakland Police Department on February 17. 1

Officers On-View Crime And Make Arrest On February 15, at 6:17 p.m., officers observed a strong arm robbery in the 2700 block of Foothill Boulevard. OPD Arrests Armed Robber On February 14 at about 7:29 p.m., Oakland Police officers responded to the report of an armed robbery in the 7500 block of Sunkist Drive. When officers arrived on scene, they located the victim, who provided detailed information regarding the suspects and the suspect vehicle. Later that evening, at about 11:05 p.m., officers located the suspect vehicle and arrested a male and female in the 8900 block of International Boulevard. 2

April 2017 OPD Arrests Homicide Suspects; District Attorney Charges On April 30, 2017, at 10:26 p.m., the Oakland Police Department (OPD) was notified of a gunshot victim in the parking lot of a business in the 4000 block of Alameda Avenue. Oakland Police officers responding to the scene located 22-year-old Robert McCorvey suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency medical services on scene pronounced McCorvey deceased. OPD homicide investigators followed up on the circumstances surrounding the death, and a 20-year-old suspect, Donald Aaron, was located and arrested on May 4 for the murder of McCorvey. Aaron was charged by the Alameda County District Attorney s Office with the murder of Robert McCorvey on May 17. On April 9, 2017, at 5:44 p.m., OPD was notified of a possible gunshot victim at a residence in the 1000 block of 66th Avenue. Responding officers located the 41-year-old victim, Dennis James of Oakland, suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency medical services provided medical attention and transported James to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. Suspect Alonte Hilliard, 22, of Oakland was arrested May 18 and on May 22, he was charged by the Alameda County District Attorney s Office with the murder of Dennis James. Robbery Suspects Arrested; One Identified As Participant In Earlier Coliseum BART Robberies On Friday, April 28, 2017, at 4:50 p.m., a plainclothes Oakland Police officer saw a robbery taking place in the area of the 6200 block of Camden Street. Responding uniformed officers were directed to the suspects vehicle and immediately attempted a traffic stop. The suspect vehicle failed to stop, prompting the officers to initiate a vehicle pursuit. The pursuit came to an end when it collided with an uninvolved vehicle in the area of Hegenberger Road and Interstate 880. The suspects, three juvenile males, fled from the vehicle and were soon taken into police custody. One of the suspects was wanted in the BART robbery that occurred on Saturday, April 22. The juvenile will now face separate charges for both incidents and remains in custody at Alameda County Juvenile Hall. Both cases are ongoing investigations. No injuries were reported relating to this incident. Robbers Arrested - On Wednesday, April 5, 2017, at 1:44 p.m., a local business in the 2900 block of Broadway was robbed. Officers obtained detailed information concerning the suspects and the suspect vehicle. Approximately 15 minutes later, officers observed the suspect vehicle in the 3300 block of Market Street. A traffic enforcement stop was conducted, and both occupants were taken into custody. OPD Makes Arrest, Recovers Illegal Firearm - On Thursday, April 6, 2017, at 3:30 p.m., Oakland Police officers patrolling the area of Mandela Parkway and 9th Street recovered an illegally possessed firearm and arrested one individual. Hard work and situational awareness enabled these officers to make our community safer by removing a firearm from our streets. Carjacker Arrested - On Monday, April 10, 2017, at 1:13 p.m., a carjacking occurred in Berkeley. The Berkeley Police Department advised OPD that the suspect and victim s vehicle should be in 3

the area of 7th and Union streets. Oakland officers responded and began to search the area. Officers observed the suspect and the stolen vehicle parked near a gas station. The officers were able to talk the suspect into peacefully surrendering. Bank Robber Arrested - On Tuesday, April 11, 2017, at 10:10 a.m., a bank in the 2100 block of Webster Street was robbed. Patrol officers responded to the area, and with the assistance of bank security guards, they were able to arrest the suspect approximately four minutes later. The loss was recovered. Officer Giovanna Borgna, who was in her 10th week of field training, and Field Training Officer John Low made this key arrest in the 1900 block of Franklin Street. Two Arrested for Armed Robbery - On Monday, April 17, 2017, officers observed a vehicle used in several armed robberies a week earlier in the 500 block of Merrimac Street. The officers were able to arrest two suspects. Armed Robbery Suspect Arrested - On Saturday, April 15, 2107, officers responded to the 2900 block of 60th Avenue on a report of an armed robbery. The preliminary investigation led officers to the 7100 block of Bancroft Avenue, where the suspect had fled into the yards. The suspect was subsequently located and arrested. Two Robbery Suspects Arrested; Loss Recovered - On Friday, April 14, 2017, at 7:10 p.m., officers responded to 600 block of East 18th Street to investigate a robbery that had just occurred. Upon arrival, the officers were directed to the suspects, who were fleeing the area. Officers were able to arrest two suspects and recover the loss. 4

May 2017 OPD Arrests Homicide Suspect; District Attorney Charges On Wednesday, May 23, 2017 at 12:10 a.m., Oakland police officers were dispatched to the 2100 block of Fruitvale Avenue on a report of shots fired. Upon their arrival, officers were directed to the 45-year-old male victim, Godofredo Nah-Pool of Oakland, who was suffering from a gunshot wound. The police officers provided medical attention and requested emergency medical units to the scene. Nah-Pool was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. Oakland police homicide investigators responded to the incident and continued the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death. During the investigation, the suspect was identified as 25-year-old Dawuan Budd of Oakland. Budd was located near the crime scene and taken into custody by OPD officers on scene. On May 25, the Alameda County District Attorney s Office reviewed the case and charged Dawuan Budd with the robbery and homicide of Godofredo Nah-Pool. On May 17, 2017, at 8:27 p.m., Oakland police officers responded to a reported assault in the 2700 block of 64th Avenue. The officers located an unresponsive man, 48-year-old Trevino Thomas, of San Leandro. Emergency medical services transported Thomas to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. Three days later, the suspect, Trevaughn Soriano, 25, of Concord, surrendered at the OPD Police Administration Building. Soriano was charged by the Alameda County District Attorney s Office with the murder of Trevino Thomas on May 23. OPD Makes Arrests On Friday, May 12, at approximately 11:33 p.m., Oakland Police officers responded to the 8400 block of Ney Avenue on a report of a possible burglary in progress. Responding officers arrived on scene and observed an individual armed with a firearm. A perimeter was immediately set up around the scene and a search for the suspects was conducted. During the search, a firearm was recovered and two suspects in possession of tools often used in burglaries were arrested. Suspect Wanted for 2014 Homicide Arrested - On Tuesday, May 16, 2017, Oakland Police officers from the Area 5 Crime Reduction Team arrested a homicide suspect who has been wanted since 2014. Thorough investigation led to a search warrant of a residence, the recovery of multiple firearms, and an additional felony arrest of an individual for possession of firearms. The Department would like to acknowledge the COMMUNITY for its willingness to come together and work with the police. Illegal activities such as drug use and sale, weapons possessions, and violence should have no place in any neighborhood. The assistance that this East Oakland neighborhood provided is an example of the type of relationship that can make a change and a difference in the quality of life in our Oakland communities. As well as the community s input and support, this investigation involved the OPD Homicide Section, Area 5 5

Crime Reduction Teams and Community Resource Officers, patrol officers, a neighboring law enforcement agency and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. OPD Makes Arrest; District Attorney Charges On May 2, 2017, Oakland Police officers arrested Roy Johnson for assaulting Winifred Bickham, who later succumbed to her injuries. The Alameda County District Attorney s Office charged Roy Johnson for the crime of manslaughter. OPD Makes Arrest; District Attorney Charges On May 8, 2017, at 1:48 p.m., the Oakland police officers responded to the 4500 block of San Leandro Street to investigate a report of a fatal stabbing of 37-year-old Allen Beene, Officers arrested Stephen Sonny Brooks in connection with the homicide. On May 10, the Alameda District Attorney s Office charged Stephen Sonny Brooks with the murder of Allen Beene. June 2017 Police See Armed Robbery Attempt; Make Arrest On Friday, June 30, at about 11:52 p.m., Oakland Police officers were in the 2600 block of E. 27th Avenue when they observed an attempted armed robbery. A foot pursuit ensued and the suspect was later apprehended. Carjacking Suspects In Custody On Friday, June 30, 2017, at approximately 11:43 a.m., Oakland police officers located and stopped a carjacking vehicle in the 2200 block of Chestnut Street. Three suspects were detained and arrested in connection with the carjacking of the vehicle, which had occurred two days prior. OPD Arrests Armed Robber On Thursday, June 29 at about 7:24 p.m., an armed robbery occurred on the 4200 block of Santa Rita Street. Oakland police officers dispatched to the scene obtained a description of the suspect and the suspect vehicle from the male victim. Investigation led responding officers to the area around 35th Avenue and Mangels Avenue, where they successfully arrested an Oakland man in connection to the armed robbery. This investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact the investigators at (510) 238-3951. OPD Makes Arrests On Wednesday, June 28 at about 7:24 p.m., an armed robbery occurred on the 4200 block of Santa Rita Street. Oakland police officers dispatched to the scene obtained a description of the suspect and the suspect vehicle from the male victim. Investigation led responding officers to the area around 35th Avenue and Mangels Avenue, where they successfully arrested an Oakland man in connection to the armed robbery. OPD Arrests Suspect In Connection with 2014 Murder; DA Charges On Wednesday, June 21, Oakland police officers arrested Robi Sojourner, 27, in connection with the December 2014 homicide of Luis Meraz, 27. The murder of Meraz occurred in the 1100 block of 107th Avenue on Thursday December 4, 2014 at 7:08 p.m. On Friday, June 30, the Alameda County District Attorney s office formally charged Sojourner with the murder of Meraz. OPD Arrests Suspect Three Days After Homicide - On Sunday, June 4 at approximately 3:20 a.m., Oakland police officers responded to a report of a fatal shooting in the 1600 block of Linden Street. Responding officers located the victim, 32-year-old Andrew Williams of San Pablo, who was pronounced deceased on scene. On Thursday, June 8, the murder suspect, 31- year-old Artison Manalastas of Antioch, was located and taken into custody by the Oakland Police Department. On Monday, June 12, the Alameda County District Attorney s Office charged Manalastas with the murder of Williams. OPD Arrests Homicide Suspect; District Attorney Charges On Sunday, June 4 at approximately 3:20 a.m., Oakland police officers responded to a report of a fatal shooting in the 1600 block of Linden Street. July 2017 Officers Convince Gunman to Surrender Peacefully - On Tuesday, July 25, Oakland Police patrol officers responded to the 6100 block of Garvin Road on a report of an individual firing a gun from his backyard. Officers contained the scene and were able to talk the gunman into surrendering safely. Arrest Made for Illegal Possession of Firearm - On Tuesday, July 25, Oakland Police officers on patrol conducted a traffic enforcement stop in East Oakland and were able to recover an illegally possessed firearm. The driver was arrested. OPD Arrests Homicide Suspect On Saturday, July 22, Oakland Police officers responded to a homicide scene in the 2700 block of 75th Avenue. Several hours later, an arrest was made. Strong Armed Robber Arrested - On Monday, July 17, at 6:14 p.m., Oakland police officers responded to a report of a strong-arm robbery in the 2800 block of Telegraph Avenue. When officers arrived on scene, the victim directed them to the suspect, who was still in the area. The officers were able to arrest the suspect and retrieve the loss. Suspect with Firearm Arrested - On Sunday, July 15, at 11:45 p.m., Oakland police officers responded to a person armed with a firearm in the 5200 block of Foothill Boulevard. The suspect had reportedly pointed the gun at several people. When police pulled up, the suspect barricaded himself inside an apartment for several hours. He eventually surrendered to the police and was safely taken into custody. DA's Office Charges Man with Double Murder - On Friday, July 14, the Alameda County District Attorney s Office charged Antonio Belvine with the double murder of Jose Gameros-Alvarado and Pedro Gonzalez. The homicides occurred on June 11, 2017, in the 9500 block of Birch Street. Auto Burglary Call Leads to 4 Stolen Vehicles; 5 Arrested - On Sunday, July 9, at about 4:48 a.m., Oakland Police officers were dispatched to the 9800 block of Burr Street to investigate a report of an auto burglary in progress. Upon arrival at the scene, they located four vehicles which had been reported stolen. Five suspects were inside the vehicles. The officers detained them and placed them under arrest. OPD Keeping the City Safe: Firearm Recoveries On Wednesday, July 5, 2017, the Oakland Police Department reported that a total of six firearms had been recovered and taken off the streets within the previous week. These weapons were recovered due to enforcement efforts by OPD patrol and specialized units across the City. 9

August 2017 On Thursday, August 31, at 12:58 a.m., Oakland Police officers responded to the 1300 block of 63rd Avenue on a report of gunshots. During the course of the investigation, officers located two people matching the description of the suspects, an adult male and female, and safely took them into custody. A firearm was located and recovered. On Wednesday, August 30, at 5:19 p.m., an Oakland Police officer saw an armed robbery taking place in the 3200 block of International Boulevard. The officer made contact with the suspect, who then fled. The adult male suspect was caught and taken into custody. On Wednesday, August 30, at 4:39 a.m., Oakland Police officers responded to the 2700 block of MacArthur Boulevard on a reported home invasion. One suspect, an adult male, was immediately taken into custody. OPD And Multiple Agencies Conducted Morning Investigations On Individuals Associated With Gangs And Violent Crimes: Nine Arrested - On Friday, August 25, 2017, the Oakland Police Department advised that at least nine arrests have been made and a number of firearms have been recovered as a result of an early morning investigation. Each arrested individual had a criminal arrest warrant issued for them prior to this morning's operation. The warrants were served in Oakland and additional cities. No injuries were reported associated to the morning s investigation. This investigation identified individuals involved in criminal activity, including murder, conspiracy to commit murder, shootings, robberies, home burglaries, and gun possession. The Department s strategy in identifying these individuals was based on data collection and intelligence driven information. Additional detailed information will be provided by the OPD Media Unit after the Alameda County District Attorney s Office has had an opportunity to review and charge each individual case. On August 17, 2017, at 8:59 a.m., Oakland Police officers responded to a church parking lot in the 1500 block of 8th Avenue on a report of a car burglary in progress. Officers arrived on scene and arrested the suspects. The loss from the church was recovered. On August 16, 2017, at 2:01 p.m., Oakland Police officers responded to the 2600 block of 90th Avenue on a report of a shooting. Officers followed investigative information that led to the arrest of the suspect. The officers also recovered two handguns. On August 15, 2017, at 5:47 a.m., Oakland Police officers responded to the 5000 block of Telegraph Avenue on a report of a strong armed robbery. When they arrived on scene, the officers arrested the suspect and recovered the loss. 10

September 2017 On Friday, September 1, at about 9:16 a.m., an Oakland police officer observed a stolen vehicle in the 3000 block of MacArthur Boulevard and advised Dispatch. Several other officers responded to the scene and the adult male suspect was taken into custody. On Sunday, September 3, at 3:15 p.m., Oakland police officers responded to a strong-arm robbery at a business in the 1500 block of MacArthur Boulevard. The adult male suspect sped from the scene in the victim s vehicle and was located by Oakland police officers who pursued him. The pursuit ended and officers were able to arrest the robbery suspect, an adult male. On Monday, September 4, at about 4:26 a.m., Oakland police officers responded to a disturbance at a business 600 block of Hegenberger Road. Responding officers addressed an adult suspect who had been loitering in the business. During the investigation, officers recovered a firearm on the suspect and the suspect was safely taken into custody without further incident. On September 6, at around 9:00 p.m., Oakland police arrested a wanted suspect in connected to crimes committed in Oakland, CA. The Oakland Police Department worked with the Richmond Police Department. During this incident, the officers established communication with the suspect in a residence. The suspect came out and peacefully surrendered to officers. On Thursday, September 7, 2017, at 2:22 p.m., Oakland police officers responded to a strong-arm robbery in the 100 block of 9th Street. The suspects took personal items from the victims and fled from the scene with the loss. Responding officers were able to take all four suspects into custody and the victim s loss was recovered. On Friday, September 8, 2017, at 2:58 a.m., Oakland police officers responded to an armed robbery in the 200 block of Vernon Street. The adult male suspect fled in an unknown direction with the victim s possessions. Oakland police officers located the suspect vehicle in the 300 block of Grand Avenue and conducted a car stop. A firearm and some of the victim s loss were recovered. The suspect was placed under arrest. On Friday, September 8, 2017, at 11:25 p.m., Oakland police officers responded to a report of an armed robbery in the 1800 block of International Boulevard. With descriptions provided by the victim, the officers located the suspect vehicle in the 3000 block of Beaumont Avenue and conducted a car stop. The adult male suspect was arrested. On Tuesday, September 12 at 11:00 p.m., an Oakland Police officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 300 block of E. 15th Street. While processing the vehicle to be towed, the officer located a firearm and a large amount of suspected marijuana inside the vehicle. The driver, an adult male, was placed under arrest. On Wednesday, September 13 at 9:49 p.m., an armed robbery occurred in the 300 block of 14th Street. Oakland Police officers located the adult male suspect and arrested him in the 1500 block of Webster Street. The victims loss was recovered. 11

The Oakland Police Arrest Homicide Suspect; District Attorney Charges On September 14, 2017, at 11:13 a.m., Oakland Police officers responded to a fatal shooting in the 600 block of 42th Street. Responding officers located a man who had been shot. The victim, Jason Coleman, 44, of Oakland, was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Soon after the shooting, Oakland and Bay Area Rapid Transit police officers located the suspect, Curtis Standley, 28, and took him into custody. A firearm was recovered. On September 18, 2017, the Alameda County District Attorney s Office charged Standley with the murder of Coleman. On Thursday, September 14 at 11:13 a.m., Oakland Police officers responded to gunshots in the 600 block of 42nd Street. Upon arrival, they located the victim, who was transported to a local hospital and was later pronounced deceased. Oakland and Bay Area Rapid Transit police officers located and arrested an adult male suspect. Officers also recovered the firearm. On Thursday, September 21, 2017, at 4:16 p.m., Oakland Police officers responded to a strong arm robbery that occurred in the 3400 block of High Street. The officers located and arrested the suspect. On Thursday, September 21, 2017, at 6: 20 p.m., Oakland Police officers responded to gunshots in the 3000 block of Lynde Street. The officers detained the suspect. A security search of the residence uncovered multiple firearms and explosives. Alameda County Sheriff s officers responded to the scene and secured the explosives. The suspect was arrested. On Friday, September 22, 2017, at 1:08 p.m., Oakland Police officers responded to a strong arm robbery that occurred in the 3900 block of Piedmont Avenue. The officers took the suspect into custody at the scene. On Saturday, September 23, 2017, at 8:15 p.m., Oakland Police officers responded to gunshots in the 1600 block of W. Grand Avenue. A short time later,officers observed a vehicle connected to the shooting on the freeway and attempted to make an enforcement stop. The suspect vehicle fled from officers, but officers soon located the vehicle. The suspect fled on foot into the neighborhood but was located and arrested. On Wednesday, September 27, at 3:01 p.m., Oakland Police officers responded to a robbery in the 2700 block of 23rd Avenue. The suspect was located on scene and was taken into custody. The loss was returned. On Thursday, September 28, at 10:54 a.m., Oakland Police officers responded to an auto burglary in the 4700 block of San Pablo Avenue. Upon arrival, the officers located and arrested the suspect. The loss was returned. On Thursday, September 28, at 11:00 a.m., Oakland Police officers responded to a robbery in the 2900 block of Broadway. The officers took the suspect into custody. 12

On Saturday, September 30, at 7:55 p.m., Oakland Police officers responded to a strong-arm carjacking in the 5500 block of International Boulevard. Officers located the suspect vehicle, attempted a traffic stop, and the suspect vehicle failed to yield. A vehicle pursuit ensued and ended in the 1100 block of 61st Avenue. One suspect surrendered on scene. The other suspect fled into a nearby yard, and was arrested after a search. 13
