Morton Ranch High School Parent Teacher Student Organization The Morton Ranch High School PTSO is proud to announce their PTSO Scholarship Awards and The Joseph Cammarata Scholarship Award. The purpose of these awards is to provide college or university scholarships to the graduating students of Morton Ranch High School in order to assist with meeting the expenses of a college education. The eligible students will each be awarded one $1000 scholarships by the PTSO. The following pages contain the full details of the Scholarship Awards program and the application form which is due Friday, April 21, 2017. Application Process: Eligible students should submit an application with supporting documentation to the Counselor s Office on or before April 21, 2017. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered. A selection committee will review the applications and select winners. The winners will be notified and the scholarships will be awarded at Senior Awards Night.
Outline of the Scholarship Award Purpose: The purpose of the Scholarship Awards is to provide college and university scholarships to Morton Ranch High School students to assist in meeting the expenses of a college education. The amount of $1000 will be paid to each of the winners at Senior Awards night. Eligibility Requirements: Scholarships will be awarded to Morton Ranch High School (MRHS) graduating seniors with Family Membership in the MRHS PTSO. Graduating seniors must also be qualified for admission to an accredited college or university at the end of the current school year during which the awards are made. They must also have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA, which must be maintained throughout participation in the awards. Applications: Any student who meets the eligibility requirements may submit an application for scholarship. It should be submitted to the Counselor s Office on or before the deadline published. The Selection Committee will not consider late applications, nor will it consider applications that do not include all material requested by the Committee in connection therewith.
Scholarship Awards: Morton Ranch PTSO Scholarships ($1000 each) and One Joseph Cammarata Scholarship ($1000) will be awarded. Selections of the scholarship winners will be made by a selections committee composed of one Morton Ranch High School staff member, two PTSO Executive Board Members and two non-board members. All committee members will have no connection with any student eligible for scholarship application. Announcement of the awards will take place on Senior Award Night. Obligations of Scholarship Recipients: Scholarship recipients will be required to maintain personal and scholastic standards satisfactory to the Administrator. The Administrator assumes no jurisdiction over the conduct, course of study, or personal affairs of recipients of scholarships. Neither MRHS PTSO nor its administrator will be liable for the debts or conduct of recipients of scholarships. Miscellaneous: Generally, the receipt of a scholarship would be non-taxable, provided it is a qualified scholarship. A qualified scholarship would generally include any amounts received as along as the amount is used for qualified tuition and related expenses such as fees, books, supplies, and equipment required for courses of instruction at a qualified educational organization. However, neither the PTSO nor the Administrator can give individual tax advice and therefore each recipient must consult their own tax advisor regarding the taxability of the scholarship. Enrollment in an accredited junior college is acceptable.
The PTSO reserves the right to make exceptions, modifications, and amendments to the provisions hereof as it deems appropriate.
