Foundation Investment in the Greater Houston Community

Strengthen CSF s role as a strong voice for philanthropy in the Southwest. Make foundations aware of the grantmaking by their colleagues. Become better informed about what foundations in the Southwest truly value in order to design programs and develop resources targeted to their needs and interests.

Analyzes giving by private foundations in our region (Arkansas, Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas) with at least $5 million in assets or $10,000 in grants paid. The data represents only foundations who file a 990PF (approximately 80% of CSF s membership is represented in this report, N = 186). Giving by community foundations, public charities, and operating foundations are not included in the scope of this report. The full report is available at www.c-s-f.org

Funders in CSF s seven state region gave to Educational Institutions & Related Activities at almost double the amount of any other giving area.

Fewer than 20% of foundations researched for this study have more than $5 million in assets. Those with assets greater than $5 million account for more than 83% of total giving.

Grants by foundations within the state represent 69% of their giving. Total giving by 2,949 Texas foundations: $1.9 billion 47% of Foundations (1,396) granted more than $100,000 17% of Foundations (505) granted more than $500,000 Average grant = $37,852 $1.9 billion granted by Texas Foundations
