INFORMATION ABOUT THE START UP IN NETHERLANDS Amsterdam is Startup Delta s Capital, a fertile breeding ground to both start up; then scale up to the rest of the world. It has a proven track-record as Europe s best test-bed. For startups, it s the place to validate and tweak your business model. It s so easy to leave the building and connect with those important launching customers. Number per Year of Growth In 2014 145.458 companies were founded (a decrease of 1,2% as opposed to 2013) Break down In 2014 5.570 small and medium sized businesses went bankrupt, the amount has decreased by 22,5% as opposed to 2013 1/3 of bankrupt companies ends activities within five years in Netherlands. ORGANIZATION SUPPORT In the Trade Register of the Chamber of Commerce is compulsory for every company and almost every legal entity. In order of popularity the sectors where most starting businesses operate are: business services, construction/engineering, healthcare, retail and hospitality/catering Courses: Entrepreneurship courses or submitting of business plans are not obligatory. Grants: The government therefore helps entrepreneurs in two ways: by guarantee loans (government ensures 1.5 million euros of loans of new businesses and 50% guarantee of entrepreneurial finance), to make tax benefit possible (companies pay less income tax on labor costs) for entrepreneurs that innovate. Governmental actions in 2015 that could lead to 2.5 million additional SME financing, + 30 million euro s for microcredits and + 75 million euro s for the innovation fund of SME s. Partner with Erasmus + The government has allocated 75 million to assist entrepreneurs and removing obstacles. 3

STARTUP INFORMATION Number per year of Start Up: Total of 3,466,110 enterprises operated in Spain. 287,311 were created during the year. *The maximum was reached in 2008 The enterprises created represented 8.3% of the total number, more than half the enterprises created have survived three years following their year of birth. BREAKDOWN/ FAILURE RELATED: The failure rate of new start-up businesses in Spain is high: 334,541 cease to exist or 9.7%. In 2012, the number of enterprises that disappeared was greater than the number of births with 47,230 units. The rate of births of enterprises stood at 8.3%, while the rate of deaths was 9.7%, yielding a net rate of 1.4% 6

Results Considering the territory in which the enterprise headquarters were located, Illes Balears (9.3%), Canarias and Comunitat Valenciana (both 9.2%) presented the highest birth rates in 2012. In turn, Comunidad Foral de Navarra (6.3%) and País Vasco (6.4%) registered the lowest rates of births of enterprises. ORGANIZATION SUPPORT Advices Make sure you first get an N.I.E. number for your business in Spain (identification number for foreigners). Discuss the different business structures available in Spain and decide on the one that suits you and your business best. Go to register your business at the local town hall. You also need to register your business in Spain with the social security office and make social security payments, which vary depending on the structure you ve chosen for your business. ORGANIZATION SUPPORT Courses: Developing entrepreneurship courses and action learning environments for business students (for instance, experimenting with student-owned co-ops as a reallife learning environment). Grants: Strategic partnering with University of Cambridge Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning in 2014. F & B Advisors: Established in 2005, F & B provides company registration services and an incorporation package to help you start your business or branch in Finland. ORGANIZATION SUPPORT Advices: Find a good agent, draw up your business plan. A private limited company costs a total of 5000TL to set up with 25% of this needing to be paid within 3 months of creation, the remaining within three years. Having set up the company, the directors must register the business with the local tax office and trade registry. The first port of call for many is their lawyer. Be sure to employ the services of a good legal advisor that knows company laws in Turkey and has previously helped ex-pats set up successful businesses. 12

Having filled out your Articles of Association and had them officially notarized, contact them within 15 days to organize the official trade registry. The KGF (Credit Guarantee Fund) offers financial support. KOSGEB (Small and Medium Sized Industry Development Organization) offers support in areas such as research and development, marketing and training. SANTEZ (Industrial Thesis Program) Up to 75% financial support for a project through direct grants. The TTGV (Technology Development Foundation) was established to encourage the development of environmental technology. Private Finance Credit from financial institutions is available from a variety of private financial institutions such as the HSBC. No incentives to following sectors; health, entertainment, agriculture, livestock, insurance and real estate. 13

HOW MANY STARTUP IN THE UNITED KINGDOM? 2014: There were 581,000 new companies created. Example of new startups in London (2016): CityFALCON, Whichit, Onfido, HeySuccess (smart platform that helps students and recent graduates find international opportunities abroad also assists companies ) BREAKDOWN/ FAILURE RELATED More than half of new businesses don t survive beyond five years, with the UK tax system, a lack of bank lending and the cost of running a business cited as the top reasons for failure. Example of startups which failed in the United Kingdom: Homejoy, Zirtual, Grooveshark (it made mistakes by failing to secure licenses from rights holders for the vast amount of music on the service.) ORGANIZATION SUPPORT Advices: Realistic idea, make a business plan with potential products to sell. Research your market - identify potential customers. Talk to them and find out if your idea is meeting a real need. Develop and plan - test your product or service with real customers, make changes, and test it again. Find partners and suppliers - think about who you re going to work with to develop and sell your idea. Set up your business - work out which legal structure is right for you, and register for tax. 15

CBI Much like the organizations that we have discussed so far, the Confederation of Business Industry is a business lobbying organization that provides a voice for employers at both a national and international level.
