Smart Tampere Development Program - The city s strategic program for 2017-2021 drives digitalisation and sustainability through ecosystem development and agile piloting - Consists of two parts: Digitalisation Program and Ecosystem Program - Aims to create digital services that make life easier, increase wellbeing and safety and enhance the co-operation between public organisations, companies, education and research organisations, and citizens - The city wants to be a forerunner in smart and sustainable city development - In the future the city's role will more and more shift from service provider to service enabler Smart city solutions products and services that meet the needs of other smart cities around the world

Digitalisation program Smart Tampere Development Program Aims at making citizens daily life easier The aim: By 2025 all services the city provides are primarily electronic Program based on rapid trials what works well should be taken into wider use Digital trials in collaboration with companies, city administration and citizens Trials in 2017: Services, payment systems, digital learning environments, health, employment, landuse, real estate services 20/80 technology / changing mindset - culture & management How? E.g. Recruitment of change agents to make digital transition happen in the city In short the program is all about developing the services of the city of Tampere

Ecosystem program Smart Tampere Development Program Seven themes: mobility, health, industry, government & citizen, infrastructure, buildings and education Other vital elements: digital connectivity, analytics & AI and user experience Each theme has a theme leader, that is in charge of developing the ecosystem In short the program is about developing Tampere city region into an attractive location for businesses and talents

Different roles of the city Depending on the need and context of the ecosystem or theme ecosystem, the City of Tampere can play different roles. Innovator & Investor Apply the principles of innovation in the internal organization and processes. Stimulate innovative solutions by acting as launching customer. Solution enabler Build ecosystems by gathering parties that normally do not work together to deliver creative new solutions. Support the ecosystems by channeling government funding. Steward Create an environment in which new businesses and smart solutions can emerge and grow. For example by providing open data and by facilitating start ups. Strategist & Advocate Sets out a clear direction for the City of Tampere: what is our vision and ambition with the Smart Tampere Ecosystem. Furthermore: be an active advocate of the city as innovative hub for new business. Director & Regulator Create or change laws and regulations to allow new business models and disruptive entries, and simultaneously protect the interests of citizens and users of the city. Connector & Protector Secure modern transportation infrastructures, energy grids and digital networks. Urban development investments and smart city business opportunities As a new form of public transportation in Tampere the light rail will offer a perfect testing ground for smart mobility solutions, as well as, smart building and smart infrastructure solutions. Construction started in 2017. Central Deck and Arena is urban scale development on top of existing railway tracks in the heart of the city. The 110,000 m2 will hold a multipurpose arena with capacity of 11,000 people. Construction started in spring 2017. An old pulp factory area Hiedanranta right on the shore of Lake Näsijärvi. The area will offer housing for 15,000-25,000 residents and jobs for 12,000-14,000 people.
