PHOENIX FUND RISING The BDCHS Annual Donation Drive 2016-2017 Dear Phoenix Family, Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire. W.B. Yeats Education is a lifelong process, and we believe, as you do, in the power of education. It can often times be frustrating and difficult, and at the same time be enriching and exciting. To reference the above quote, education can light a fire in children to prepare them for their future. Through a quality education students will be able to: Make a positive impact in the world Reach their potential Become a better person Build self-confidence Support themselves and a family Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate High School is celebrating their 10 th anniversary!! As part of the celebration we are introducing our very first annual Phoenix Fund Rising campaign - the school s MOST IMPORTANT fundraiser!! It s through these efforts that BDCHS is able to sustain their mission to be a model collegiate school offering high quality education with broad and rigorous educational programs, equipping our students for academic achievement and postsecondary success. Monies raised through this campaign will help to provide a superior education directly impacting student learning and will directly support the following on an annual basis: Instructional tools, resources, and materials Equipment for classrooms, athletics, performing arts, and media center Technology upgrades Club and athletic support Student assistance programs (This is not an inclusive list; this list is subject to change as needs change.) Our Phoenix Fund Rising campaign begins October 3, 2016. For our BDCHS families, it s a donation drive. We are asking each student and their family to collect at least $200 in donations over a four week period. Based on our number of students/families, we have the potential to raise between $110,000 - $130,000!! We can do amazing things for our students through these efforts.

There are several ways to raise these funds; each family can choose what works best for them: 1) The family collects contributions from various family members, friends, coworkers, neighbors, etc. totaling $200 or greater. 2) Families collect contributions from their employers or their own business totaling $200 or greater (Please note: some employers will match a gift by an employee). 3) The family makes a $200 or greater contribution on behalf of their family. 4) Use a combination of any of the options above to collect a total of $200 or greater. For any of these options and in keeping with our 10 year anniversary, we suggest collecting $10 donations which makes it easy and affordable - $10 X 20 people = $200!!!! PLEASE NOTE the following: - Families with multiple children at BDCHS will have a goal of $200 for the family; they will NOT multiply the goal by the number of children. - Donations are voluntary and do not in any way affect your student s enrollment at BDCHS. - We cannot accept volunteer hours for donations made to the school. - Donations may be tax deductible; we encourage you to check with a financial advisor and/or tax specialist to determine your gift s eligibility. Included in this mailing is your Phoenix Fund Rising Donation Drive tool kit, including: Donation Drive Process Ways to Donate Incentives What to say? (a script) Promoting the Donation Drive Other ways to donate to the Phoenix Fund BDCHS Wish List Donation Drive Log All monies, forms, etc. should be handed in to your child s homeroom teacher no later than 3:00 p.m., Monday, October 31, 2016. However, these items may be turned in any time during the campaign. With the support of our donors, we can ensure our students will continue to receive a quality Blue Ribbon, A Grade education. We thank you in advance for your support of Phoenix Fund Rising and for being willing to make a difference in the lives of students and teachers at Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate High School. What to say? Below is just a sample of what can be said when approaching people for a donation. It is recommended that each person using it add their personality to it and their own words. Not everyone will need to use the script. Hello, my name is, I am a student at Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate High School (OR, I am a parent of a student at ). During the month of October, our entire school is raising money through our Phoenix Fund Rising Donation Drive. The donations will help in providing added support for educational programs that enhance our curriculum and instruction. The donations will go directly to the Phoenix Fund helping to pay for instructional tools, resources and materials, technology upgrades, student assistance programs, and equipment for classrooms/media, plus so much more. My personal (or family) goal is to raise $200 or more to support our school goal of raising $110,000. Would you please help me reach this by making a contribution? In celebration of our ten (10) year anniversary, we are asking for people to consider at least a $10 donation. I can easily take a donation today with a check payable to BDCHS or cash, or you can make one online using a credit card by visiting our website (www.bdchs.org/support-bdchs/instructionaldonations/); please include my name under special instructions on the last page before submitting. Thank you for your time and support! My classmates, teachers, and I appreciate your kindness and willingness to help our amazing school. Promoting the Donation Drive: To help our BDCHS families in meeting our goal, here are some ideas for promoting the donation drive Post the drive asking for support on Facebook (students, parents/guardians, and other family members can do this); ask FB friends to share. Tweet about the drive and donations on Twitter. Share BDCHS posts and tweets about the Phoenix Fund Rising Donation Drive. Send emails and Facebook messages to individuals about the campaign asking for donations. To make it easy, you can utilize the script above in an email!! Get creative and have fun with the drive!! MAKE IT A FAMILY AFFAIR!!!

What were their interests and favorite subjects? What did their children enjoy in school? What subject areas are important to them? Do they have an appreciation for music, athletics, health and wellness, technology or dance? Are there certain areas of our school that will help promote what is important to their business/company? This is the perfect opportunity for them to make a difference in the life of many high school students.
