Modern Product Protection Regulatory Landscape, Trends and Solutions Paul Slavashevich, Symrise In recent years, traditional preservatives have been under increased scrutiny by the media and regulatory bodies. Even major retailers are setting guidelines for the products they stock on their shelves. Whether warranted or not, cosmetic formulators are being left with very few options when it comes to protecting their products from microbial contamination. In this presentation, we will discuss the basics of product protection, the regulatory landscape of traditional preservatives and alternative, non-controversial ingredients that are gaining popularity. We will also discuss consumer s perception on traditional preservatives as well as current product trends addressing these concerns.. Paul Slavashevich has been working in Product Development for over 15 years for such companies as Avon Products, Zotos International, Artec Systems and Alzo International. At Symrise he manages North American Application Lab for Cosmetic Ingredients Division. 1602 West Northfield Blvd. Suite 515, Murfreesboro, TN 37129 2
Message from the Chapter Chair Hello esteemed colleagues and greetings from the chair. I hope and trust everyone has had a great summer thus far. Here in Memphis, it has been a smoker as usual, but we find solace in knowing the fall and football season is vastly approaching. The start of our summer commenced with our Chapter Suppliers Social Event in June. This year s event was held at the Memphis Fire Museum, which was the first endeavor at this venue for the chapter. The museum proved to be a unique setting, with interesting museum artifacts, simulators, old trucks and a supportive staff. Truly a learning experience that supports an important mission to promote our brave firefighters and their continued sacrifice. Our Treasurer, John Wagner did a marvelous job setting up everything, especially the theme decorations. We also want to give a shout out to our caterer, Another Roadside Attraction, who continues to provide outstanding food and service at our local events. We would like to thank everyone that came out, our wonderful sponsors and especially McCullough & Associates for sponsoring the cocktail hour and wine during dinner. We look to do things a little different for our next meeting, as we are hosting a lunch and learn outing in beautiful Murfreesboro, TN. The venue will be the Five Seasons Restaurant where we will commence with registration and a wonderful lunch. We will then have a presentation of Modern Product Protection, Regulatory Landscape, Trends and Solutions" by Mr. Paul Slavashevich, Symrise. Hopefully the location alone will provide an easier transition for our members who may sometimes be limited in geographical travel. I am sure it will be fun, fascinating and educational so please RSVP to our Chapter Secretary, Albert Bateman, right away. Last but not least, The Southeast Chapter continues to function as a fun filled organization for our area members, to which we have experienced some growth this year. That being said, it is almost that time again to start thinking of next year s leadership. If you have an interest in running please let us know by October 1st. Thank you so much for all you do. Very warm regards, Cubie Lamb, 2018 Chapter Chair 3
