Volume #7 Issue #11 November 2016 Hello Comrades & Ladies, Everything has been running fairly well at the Post/Canteen. As some of you have seen, we split the wall and moved 6 feet to the opposite side. This really opens the entire room. We will move the pool table into the area on the other side of the wall soon. This will enable us to add seating in front of the bar and allow the pool players un-interrupted playing. On Oct 29 th we are having a Halloween costume party, Benny will be entertaining. This should be fun and interesting! We will be paying off our $207,000 mortgage in Nov., only 5 years after our Grand Opening. We are having a Mortgage burning party on Nov. 11 th. We are having steaks on a reserved seat basis because of limited seating. I m sorry to say all the reservations (60) are filled. Normal bar food service will not be available until after 7 PM. The bar and coin bar will be available for seating of those not eating. Nov. 12 th is the Marine Corp. birthday with meatloaf dinner at 5 PM and festivities at 7. On Thanksgiving we ll open at Noon and have a free turkey dinner for Veterans and their family at 2 PM. Tanks for supporting the VFW and we ll see you there. Be safe. Jim From the Commander From the Auxiliary President In This Issue From the Commander From the Auxiliary President From the Canteen Manager 2016-2017 Officers 2016-2017 Auxiliary Officers Event Flyers Adjutant s Report November Calendar Canteen Menus The Back Page Well it's that time again for Turkey and all of the fixings. Cannot wait. I love this Holiday. Since our regular meeting is on the fourth Thursday and Thanksgiving is on that day our meeting will be held on November 17th at 7pm. Wanted to make sure that all members are aware of this if you were not at the meeting in October. Reminder that November 19th from 8am-4pm is our Bake Sale and Bizarre. This will be the first time at the new Post that we are going to have a Holiday Bizarre. So, anyone that is wanting a table to sell their product the price is $10.00 for one table and $15.00 for two tables. Please let me know if you are interested in having a table. I believe that we have four vendors coming in so there is plenty of tables left. We will also be having lots of Baked Goods from our wonderful bakers of the Auxiliary. This will be a fund raiser for our Veterans Relief. So, make sure you come early to stock up on all of the wonderful goodies. Last month our Auxiliary bought ball caps for the low-income Veterans that are living at the apartments near the college and it went very well. We also donated toilet paper from our last meeting and I thank everyone that participated. I will look into seeing if these Veterans are in need of other items and will let you all know at out next meeting. Also, we were informed that the Fisher House is in need of K-cups of coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and apple cider. So, when you are out and about and come across a sale please pick some up and bring them to the Post. We will then take them to the Fisher House. Again, I want to thank all of you for your volunteer hours and assistance in helping out our Veterans and their families. If you have any issues, questions or request to please contact me. Happy Thanksgiving to all! Jenifer Harris

From the Canteen Manager Well it is officially here, the Holiday Season has arrived. As we all know November has always been a very busy month at the Post. With Veterans Day, the Honor Guard has many details on the books. We also have the Veterans Day Parade the morning of the 5th.We welcome any members that would like to be a part of this fun to arrive at the Post at 8am. I was informed that we will have the Deuce and a half available to transport and deliver members that would like to participate in the parade. This is rain or shine, dress appropriately... Our next event of the month is Friday Nov11th. Most everyone was informed by either email or via Facebook about our "Mortgage Burning Party". We are serving a reservation only dinner that evening and that was sold out in 2 days. We will have seating at the bar for those that are not having dinner. Our reason for limited dinners is the seating that we lack. We do not get table turnover here as you all already know. I will be placing names on tables for the dinner service and also an estimated time that your table will be served. If you were not able to get on the list we are starting waiting list that we will utilize in the event of someone canceling. Please understand just because you are on the wait list, it does not mean you will be called. We will go down the list by first to last. The real celebration/ ceremony will begin at 8pm that evening. There are so many of you that have had a hand in either the building process of this great Post and/ or supporting it in every way possible. THANKS TO YOU ALL!!! I hope you can be here on the 5th anniversary of this Posts new location and the final payoff of our mortgage note. Saturday November 12th we will be celebrating the Marine Corp Birthday. Dinner will be 5-7pm as usual with the ceremonies beginning at 7pm. I hope you will join us on this day and evening of great fun. starting the 2nd Tuesday this month we will be having Trivia Night in the Canteen! It's free to play and starts at 630. If this goes well, which I hope it will. Every Tuesday will be Trivia Night. I would like to thank Amy and Rob D for making this happen. So come check it out!! Of course we cant over look Thanksgiving... The Post will be open at noon and serving a meal at no cost to Veterans and their families. If you would like to share a side dish there will be a list behind the bar to fill out. The Post will provide the turkeys, potatoes, stuffing and rolls. I hope you will join us. The following day the 25th we will open one hour late, at 11am. On the business side, I would like to mention a few recent changes. Tina is now working Mon-Fri days and no longer cooking our Sunday breakfasts. With change there is always friction of some sort. I have heard some of the "complaints" and I promise we/i are addressing them. I am proud of the people that we have here as a support team of hard working individuals. and also of the way they respond to tasks as they arise. Thank you for your feed back. Remember we cant fix it if we don't know your feelings. I am also aware that pleasing everyone is next to impossible. I will do my very best to see to it that everything goes forward with success. I wish you all a wonderful Holiday Season. Stay healthy and well. God Bless and thank you for your service!!! Michelle Rex
