Vol. XIX Issue 3 JOSEPH P. KENNEDY, JR. AMERICAN LEGION POST 11-11 9959 Wadsworth Blvd. Broomfield, CO 80021 Telephone: (303) 466-1278 March 2017 NEWSLETTER COMMANDER S CORNER Chuck Blay Commander Our web-site has a new home and has been worked on and is being updated. This has been made possible by the efforts of Patrick Neal and Brad Raulston. Both of these men have spent several hours of their time to get this done. The address is legionpost11-11.org May Lou Murphy, Paul Murphy s wife, donated a CD entitled USS Indianapolis to the Post. This came out as a movie last Fall. This CD will be available on a sign-out basis for your viewing, or if enough people want to watch it at the same time. We can show it on the large TV which Mary Lou donated. If you are watching this movie, which Mary Lou says is very real as she knows it, there is a picture of Paul inside the back cover of the jacket. Paul s picture is shown at the end of the movie. We had a very nice Four Chaplains Ceremony this past month. I took the opportunity to present the Life Time Achievement Awards to a man and woman at this ceremony. They were both previous Chaplains of this Post and the 5 th District. The awards went to Norm Harpole who was a Chaplain at this Post for seven years, and a District Chaplain for six years. The other award went to Joyce Allen who was a chaplain of our Post Auxiliary and also a Chaplain for the District Auxiliary. Joyce was unable to be here as she is now a resident of Life Care Center at 77 th and Sheridan (she would love to have visitors). I presented the award to her at the center. The nomination for Post Officers begins this month. All offices are open. The nominee must be present and you can nominate yourself. Don t just sit outside and wish the Offices would do something. Become a part of the group. If you have not renewed your membership for 2017, you must do so as you are now considered delinquent by the state. We are doing well, this is just a reminder. Your new card will come in a timely manner thank too the efforts of our Adjutant Larry Starley. As always, keep our veterans in your thoughts, particularly those who may be in need. Keep our active duty service men and women in your thoughts and prayers, especially those who may be in harms way. Chuck Blay, Commander AUXILIARY In the spirit of Service, Not Self, the mission of the American Legion Auxiliary is to support The American Legion and to honor the sacrifice of those who serve by enhancing the lives of our veterans, military, and their families, both at home and abroad. For God and Country, we advocate for veterans, educate our citizens, mentor youth, and promote patriotism, good citizenship, peace and security. The Mission Statement of the American Legion

PAGE 2 Auxiliary is clear. I am proud to say that our Unit has fulfilled that mission in this past year and then some. Our last project of sending Care Packages to 15 Female Soldiers was our finest yet. Thank you all that supported this project with donations or assembling the packages. Special thanks to Elizabeth Nelson for the idea to start this project and your donation, Pappy Schenck with helping with all the little details, and Julie Richfield for filling out all those customs forms. You guys all ROCK! We are down to our last fundraiser of the year and it s our biggest one. The Merchandise Pickle! This year we are having it on Saturday, March 18th @ Noon. Annie is doing the cooking as always. Her famous Corn beef and Cabbage. Pickle sales start @. Thank you, Annie! Please come down to the Post, enjoy Annie s cooking, purchase some Merchandise Pickles to win some great prizes, and most importantly have a good time! We hope to see you there! Stacey Honeyman, Auxiliary President CHAPLAIN Names of God- El Shaddai When God appeared to Abram (soon to become Abraham), what He actually said was "I am El Shaddai". El Shaddai is one of seven covenant names through which God revealed himself to Israel. In Hebrew El Shaddai means "The All Sufficient One" or the One who is more than enough. The translators of the King James Version translated El Shaddai as "Almighty God" all through the Old Testament, Almighty God revealed and unveiled himself as the God that is more than enough. Bob Martin, Chaplain Club Connection I wanted to start by thanking all of you for such a warm welcome. Talking to each of you has reminded me how blessed we are to have such an amazing post. I love seeing the pool table being used and pickup poker games starting up. The beautiful weather even has me starting to think about Games of Horse Shoe and Memorial Day Festivities. But one thing at a time! Right now Ladies Auxiliary is busy getting ready for the St. Patrick s Day Merchandise Pickle, and I personally can t wait for some of Annie s Corned Beef and Cabbage. The celebration starts at noon on Saturday the 18 th and I hope to see you there! Heather Soffel, Club Manager Around the Post March Newsletter Quilts of Valor is a national foundation dedicated to the appreciation and gratitude to service members and veterans. One of the ways they accomplish their mission is by honoring active duty personnel and veterans by giving them fantastic American themed quilts. One of the local chapters here in Colorado has requested veteran names for just such a presentation. On June 13th, at the regular Legion meeting at 7:00 PM, QOV will be presenting quilts to some of our Post Officers, both present and past. In addition, some other individuals will be honored for their contributions here at Post 11-11. The Post would like to invite the Auxiliary, SAL, family, and friends to that meeting to be a part of the thanks to these veterans. To learn more about QOV, go to: qovf.org (they take donations there as well) I have received a new APO address and will be shipping our famous care packages to Korea in the very near future. Please fill up those basket at the front of the lounge with toiletries, DVDs (used or new), and new socks and/or gloves. Thanks to everyone for continuing to support our money raising efforts by completing the phrases on the board in the men s room. You rock, 11-11..! Poker tournament is on hold until we can find a reputable host/provider. There will be a flyer when we get it scheduled Tim Pappy Schenck, Past Commander & SAL Adjutant

Message from Adjutant-Larry Starley Membership is around 90% and growing. This week I will be sending out letters to non-renewed members. As a clarification below are the rules pertaining to membership dates. Thank you for your new and continued membership
