Dear Supporter, OUR NEWS Autumn/Winter 2018 Welcome to the Autumn/Winter issue of our Newsletter. This issue is packed with our latest news from some of the crazy and at times mad things that the local community have been up to throughout the year to the impact of the care and services that we provide and some fun ways in which you can continue to help support your local charity. This year really has been one to remember and seems to have gone by in a flash! We have celebrated our 1st anniversary of our Hospiscare @ Home service, welcomed a new Clinical Nurse Specialist and Hospiscare @ Home Nurse to our team and launched a new Hairdressing service available to all of our patients in their own homes. We have also just launched our new Regular Donor programme Be a Friend. By becoming a friend of the charity from just 10 a year you will be providing us with a regular and reliable source of income that we can direct to where it is needed most. A regular donation allows us to plan ahead more effectively enabling us to continue to offer the best care and support to our patients and their families. I do hope that you enjoy reading this newsletter, none of the great work that we do would be possible with out YOU, OUR FANTASTIC LOCAL COMMUNITY. I continue to be amazed by the tireless dedication of individuals, families, and businesses that support us throughout the year. Thank you for all you do for us it truly does make such a huge difference. Our News Nursing Team Welcomes.. Lorraine Dolly who joins the Clinical Nurse Specialist Team. Lorraine joins us from the R, D & E Hospital where she previously worked as a Paliative Care Nurse. She has taken on the role of a Clinical Nurse Specialist covering the area of Budleigh Salterton & District. Sasha Turner and Ali Morgan who have both joined our Hospiscare @ Home Team. Sasha joins us from Pinewood Residential Home as one of our Hospiscare@Home Nurses and Ali joins us from the Hospice In Patient Unit in Exeter s Searle House as a Healthcare Assistant. Volunteer Team Welcomes... Valerie Hancock joined us earlier in the year as our Volunteer Hairdresser. Valerie relocated from Kent to Exmouth a year ago, she has many years of experience in hairdressing and is able to make visits to patients, carers and families in their own homes within the local community of Exmouth, Budleigh Salterton, Lympstone, Woodbury and surrounding areas.

Our Hospiscare@Home Service Your team provided support in so many ways, knowing that any of us could pick up the phone and seek advice at anytime was such a comfort to us Our Hospiscare@Home (H@H) service started in July 2017 and has provided an invaluable addition to the already well-established clinical nurse specialist (CNS) service, ensuring we can provide the right level of advice, care and support to meet the varying needs of our patients and their families. We are often asked what is the difference between our CNS and H@H services? The two teams work very closely together but do have quite different roles to complement each other. Our CNS nurses are experienced specialist nurses and are usually the first point of contact once a referral has been made. They visit people at home and in care homes, providing specialist advice and support to help address and ease any concerns, worries and symptoms that someone may have. They provide the reassurance of knowing there are specialist nurses who can be contacted whenever advice is needed, who will know what is going on for that person and have the experience of how best to help. They do not do the hands on nursing, but provide the specialist advice and support for patients, families, carers and for the community nurses and GPs. Our Assistant Practitioner is also an essential part of the team contributing to the high level of support provided. Your love and support for Dad in his final days is so appreciated. You enabled Dad to pass peacefully and with dignity at home The H@H service is a team of registered nurses and a healthcare assistant who provide the urgent hands on nursing care when required. This can be invaluable when someone is nearing the end of their life, or in a period of crisis and wishing to stay at home rather than be admitted to the hospital or hospice. The H@H nurses work closely with our CNS s, the district nurses and care agencies that are often already supporting someone and provide that extra level of nursing care that brings the care of the Hospice into someone s home. They can visit several times a day if needed and have a nurse on call at night providing peace of mind that someone can phone or visit if an urgent need arises. Compassionate, individualised, care, support and advice is always at the heart of all we do. Words cannot express my heartfelt gratitude to you all. Without you, my Mum wouldn t have been able to spend those last precious moments at home with her family

AMBERWOOD & LINKSWAY NURSING HOME A huge THANK YOU to Amberwood & Linksway Nursing Homes who raised a fantastic 400 for us. They held a Garden Party in June where more than 50 people residents, families & friends enjoyed a glorious afternoon of sunshine, Cream Teas & MEL OSBORNE Mel wanted to do something to give something back to the charity in memory of her late Husband. She took on the heroic challenge of having all her hair shaved off as well as organising a family fun day at the Dockside Café where she works. From her efforts Mel has raised a magnificent 616.56. THANK YOU Mel you are a real star. OUR CORPORATE PARTNERS A very special THANK YOU must be given to all of our Corporate Sponsors who have supported us this year and those who have chosen to support us in 2019.
