September 24, 2017 Our Challenge Dear Friends, Is God demanding or merciful? Does God expect goodness from us or sin? God expects the best of us, but is prepared for the worst. God holds us to a high standard of moral living, but God is willing to forgive us when we fall short. God s relationship to us is what matters most to God. In the light of eternity, our worldly concerns appear significantly less important than we often make them. Our comfort matters less, and our relationships matter more. Success becomes unimportant compared to integrity. Giving provides more joy than receiving. We seek fairness for all, and establish rules that treat everyone equally. This weekend s gospel parable, however, concerns, not the fairness, but the generosity of God. Treating everyone equally is unfair, because it discriminates against those who do not have certain advantages. God is generous to all of us. Missed opportunities can have unfortunate results. It makes a tremendous difference, however, what caused them. If missing an opportunity was not our fault, it is much easier to accept. We couldn t help it. But if missing an opportunity was due to forgetfulness, negligence, or procrastination, we may never make peace with it. God is sought in sanctuaries, at altars, and amid the beauties of nature. God may be more easily found, however, in the loneliness, the suffering, and the sorrow of our human brothers and sisters. Some people simply pray to God for what they want. Other people pray that God will help them decide between two paths that are open to them. Still others pray that God will guide their thoughts and transform their desires so that God s will may be known and done. God hears all our prayers and honors our worthy petitions. But our prayers may be more meaningful to us if, instead of praying for what we want, we pray that God will transform our desires in accordance with His will. Have a good week! Love and prayers, Father Randy ACTS: Adoration, Community, Theology, and Service St. Aloysius Women s ACTS RETREAT November 30th December 3rd, 2017 Registration: Saturday, September 30th Thru October 23rd at 4:00 p.m. Completed forms with $75 deposit should be hand delivered to the church office or mailed in time to arrive before the deadline.
