LATAR BELAKANG PROGRAM Jabatan Kejuruteraan Awam (JKA), PUO akan mengadakan program Build & Break Competition 2018 (BBC 2018) pada 24 dan 25 September 2018 dan terbuka kepada semua pelajar sekolah menengah dan Kolej Vokasional di Negeri Perak dan Institusi Pengajian Tinggi dalam dan luar negara. Pertandingan ini memerlukan peserta untuk membina model berstruktur yang mempunyai kriteria tertentu seperti yang telah ditetapkan dalam syarat pertandingan. Setiap kumpulan perlu menggunakan daya kreativiti mereka untuk membina model dengan bahan-bahan yang dibekalkan. IMPAK Program ini diadakan bertepatan dengan hasrat kerajaan dalam Pelan Pembangunan Pendidikan Malaysia 2015-2025 (Pendidikan Tinggi) yang berlandaskan lima aspirasi sistem iaitu akses, kualiti, ekuiti, perpaduan dan kecekapan dan enam atribut aspirasi pelajar iaitu etika dan kerohanian, kemahiran memimpin, identiti nasional, kemahiran bahasa, kemahiran berfikir, dan pengetahuan yang dirangka melalui 10 anjakan yang digariskan dalam PPPM (PT) ini. Penganjuran program ini juga sebagai satu medium untuk peserta mengaplikasi pengetahuan teori dan amali bagi ilmu fizik serta asas struktur dan pembinaan model berstruktur ini juga akan menggalakkan peserta untuk berfikir secara kreatif dan inovatif. RULES AND REGULATION. EVALUATION CRITERIA a) Structural Efficiency 50% b) Creativity and Engineering Design 30% c) Poster 20% POSTER Each group is required to submit an A3 sized poster during registration. The poster must include the following items: a) Name of institution b) Group name c) Group members d) Advisor e) Model description CONTEST RULE 1. A maximum of 4 members and 1 advisor are allowed per group. 2. A model bridge structure must be constructed within 4 hours at the place provided by the organiser. 3. The model bridge structure must meet all specifications of the Build and Break Competition 2018. 4. The model bridge structure must be constructed only from official wood, adhesive and thread provided to the contestants. No other materials may be applied to the model. MODEL SPESIFICATIONS 1. The model bridge structure must be of the following dimension: a. Length(L) 1000mm b. Maximum width(w) 100mm c. Maximum height(h) 300mm d. Maximum beam thickness(t) 20mm e. Span(S) 900mm
The base must be flat! Refer Figure 1 below Figure 1 2. The model bridge structure must be constructed to provide for the placement of the loading plate (see Figure 2) at each of the two loading points. Figure 2 3. Any portion of structure above or below the loading plane must provide clearance for the loading rod at the two loading point locations.
LOADING 1. The load will be applied downwards from below and will be place at the loading points. 2. Model bridge structure failure is defined as the inability of the model to carry additional load, including joint failure, and will be decided by the judges. QUALIFICATION 1. The model bridge structure will be checked for confirmity to design, dimension and construction rules. 2. Disqualified model may be tested if time permits but not eligible for awards. 3.
