Piloting opportunities for Smart City IoT solutions (SynchroniCity initiative, EU Horizon 2020) SynchroniCity attempts to deliver a Single Digital City Market for Europe by piloting its foundations in 11 reference zones. Eight of these reference zones are major European cities (Antwerpen, Carouge, Eindhoven, Helsinki, Manchester, Milano, Porto, and Santander). This initiative builds on assets and knowledge derived from earlier EU initiatives such as OASC, FIWARE, FIRE, and EIP-SCC. SynchroniCity will deliver a harmonized ecosystem for IoT-enabled smart city solutions where IoT device manufacturers, system integrators and solution providers can innovate and openly compete. SynchroniCity will also establish a reference architecture for the envisioned market place, including interoperability points, interfaces and data models. SynchroniCity has now opened a funding call for SMEs for testing and scaling up their IoT-based Smart City solutions. Call themes are Sustainable Mobility, Environment & Wellbeing and Citizen Engagement. The fourth theme is left open. Solutions can be at commercial stage or near commercialization. Funding is 100k 300k per pilot (in total 3 million) depending on the number of participating companies. The selected pilots will be tested for six months (February September 2019) in at least two cities, one of which needs to be a European reference zone. Applications must be filed by the end of September 2018. In Helsinki, the coordinating organization is Forum Virium Helsinki, contact person Ms. Kaisa Sibelius (tel. +358 40 5701317, kaisa.sibelius@forumvirium.fi).
