vol. 20 no. 11 NOV 2018 VIEWER GUIDE FOR MEMBERS OF KCTS 9 > great performances Broadway s Best series premieres FRI Nov 2 9p Growing Native Thai Cave Rescue Julia Louis-Dreyfus: on NOVA The Mark Twain Prize 1

Broadway s Best! An n in Paris The Musical FRI Nov 2 9p Commissioned in 1928 by the New York Philharmonic, George Gershwin s An n in Paris is among his most famous compositions. Inspired by Gershwin s score, the 1951 film starring Gene Kelly became one of Hollywood s most beloved movie musicals. In 2015, the show finally came home to Broadway in a new stage adaptation; during its 2017 run in London s West End, the Broadway production, starring Robert Fairchild and Leanne Cope, was recorded for this broadcast. Rodgers & Hammerstein s The Sound of Music FRI Nov 9 9p A long-running hit that garnered the Best Musical Tony for 1959, the inspiring true story of the von Trapp Family Singers escape from Austria during the rise of Nazism went on to achieve iconic status with the release of the blockbuster movie in 1965. This version, produced in the U.K., stars Kara Tointon as Maria and Julian Ovenden as Captain von Trapp. John Leguizamo s Road to Broadway FRI Nov 16 9p Starting out as a stand-up comic in the 1980s, John Leguizamo has had a renowned career spanning film, television and theater. His quicksilver comic brilliance and insightful social consciousness was on display in his series of one-man shows, including Mambo Mouth and Spic-O-Rama. This new documentary chronicles Leguizamo s latest show, Latin History for Morons, a comedic yet pointed look at the repression of Hispanic culture throughout n history. Harold Prince: The Director s Life FRI Nov 23 9p This retrospective celebrates iconic producer and director Harold Prince, whose six decades in the theater resulted in 21 Tony Awards for such legendary shows as West Side Story, Fiddler on the Roof, Cabaret and The Phantom of the Opera. This documentary features interviews with many of Prince s legendary collaborators, including Stephen Sondheim, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Angela Lansbury and many others. 2 Cover photo courtesy of Tristram Kenton.
