Sponsorship Prospectus 2018 Building a Better Future for Women in Construction www

Message from the Queensland President. NAWIC is a not-for-profit organisation whose mission is to champion and empower women in the construction and related industries to reach their full potential. Over the past 22 years in Australia, NAWIC has provided its members with a forum to meet and exchange ideas, as well as providing opportunities to expand personal and business networks, maintain awareness of industry developments, improve skills and knowledge, and make a contribution to other women in the construction industry. Our target of 11% women working in frontline roles in the industry is a significant but achievable increase from the current rate of 3%, which has been stagnant for quite some time. This vision of diversity has received a phenomenal amount of support from industry and government, allowing us to provide initiatives, awards and increase the focus on women within the industry. Initiatives to meet these targets include our annual mentoring program, our Consider Construction program for girls at high schools and the development of a Jobs Board to help employers find female staff for non-traditional roles. Our Women On Tools committee, through our ongoing annual scholarships program, are working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community representatives to improve the participation of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander women in the construction industry. NAWIC also provides monthly events and awards recognition for women s achievements in the industry. The Queensland Government continues to offer the women of our industry a seat at the table with 50% of Queensland government appointed boards in our industry now being made up of women and a seat at the Ministerial Construction Council table for NAWIC alongside the industry s top associations and unions. Construction has the second highest average income of any industry in Queensland, and is slowly being considered a more acceptable occupation for young women leaving school. The benefits of diversity and inclusiveness that come from increasing the number of women in frontline roles are proven and now it s time for organisations like NAWIC to focus on promoting construction as a more acceptable occupation for young women leaving school, as well as helping employers to find women to fill roles, upskilling, and supporting and assisting women in the industry to prepare for senior management and Board roles.

We are here to support women in the contruction industry. We will connect you with your audience in a meaningful way and across multiple platforms. Events Digital and content Print Social

Women on Tools (WOT) 11% Target by 2021 The major focus of the WOT Committee is addressing the shortage of women employed in all levels of the building and construction industry other than clerical and administrative roles remains a significant issue for the industry and for women. It is certainly a time for change. NAWIC QLD Women on Tools has a target of 11% female frontline workers on all Queensland Government projects by 2021. The target is supported by a 3-prong strategy addressing: the attraction and retention of women in apprenticeships and traineeships; repositioning women as employees considered in first choice; industry commitment to gender equality accessibility of trade careers.
