Why is education important? More Education = More opportunities for career CHOICES!!! More Education = More money More Education = Better chance to FIND a job you ACTUALLY LIKE!! Retirement age in the US is 67.. That is 49 years of working from turning 18 to turning 67. You might as well like what you re going to do! You ll never work a day in your life if you love what you re doing.

A-G Requirements Here at Central Valley we make sure that you have the opportunity to fulfill all of the A-G requirements. You meet these requirements by getting C s or better in all of your classes! Simple as that!

Junior College Examples: Modesto Junior College, Merced Community College, Delta Community College Anyone can attend May earn Associates Degree (2 years) or Vocational Ed Certificate. Designed as the first half of a 4 year education path. (2 years at JC, then transfer to finish 2 years at CSU or UC to earn a bachelors degree) Impacted (longer waitlists/harder to get classes) Lower cost; Financial Aid available. 4 Year University Must be A-G Eligible and take the SAT or ACT, minimum 2.0 GPA May earn a bachelor s degree (4 year degree) Bachelors degree s are required for most professional careers in your generation. Smaller waitlists (easier to get classes that you need) Costs vary by school but extensive financial aid is available for those who qualify Most students will qualify for some sort of financial aid Higher percentage of students who START at a CSU will FINISH and earn their degree! Grade Point Average A CSU/UC grade point average (GPA) is based on your grades in the A-G requirements completed during 10 th and 11 th grades The GPA is titled weighted ACA 10-12 and is what you will enter on college applications. CSU s require a minimum 2.0 UC s require a minimum 3.0
Grade Point Average GPA s count for many things: Sports: you must have a 2.0 to participate in any sports. College: You must have a minimum of 2.0 or higher to be able to apply for a four year university. (a 3.0 for UC s). Financial Aid/Scholarships: the Cal Grant is based on your GPA, as well as many merit scholarships. Cal Grant is worth up to $20,000. Safe bet is to have a 3.0
2. GPA of 2.0 or higher Colleges combine your GPA with your SAT/ACT scores to determine if you qualify for their school. All schools vary in competiveness and how hard they are to get into. A 2.0 GPA is the MINIMUM to apply but does not guarantee acceptance to any school. REMEMBER: Higher GPA = Better Opportunities!

Financial Aid All financial aid applications happen senior year Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Qualifies you for money from both the State and Federal Government. Lots of Aid available!! Most students will qualify for some sort of aid. Examples: Cal Grant, Pell Grant, Student Loans, Work Study, Blue and Gold Grant)

PSAT What? o WHY??? o Receive feedback on your strengths and weaknesses on skills necessary for college study. o See how your performance on an admissions test might compare with that of others applying to college. See where you stand in your chances to get in. o Enter the National Merit Scholarship Competition (juniors only). o Help prepare for the SAT. You can become familiar with the kinds of questions and the exact directions you will see on the SAT so when it is timed to take the real test you will be better prepared.
