Mission & Impact Statements Mission The mission of Camp Sycamore Creek is to enrich the lives of inner city children by providing them the opportunity to enjoy a fun-filled camp experience while also teaching them values and life skills. Background Camp Sycamore Creek was previously owned and operated by Youth Encouragement Services for 40 years. They started the camp in 1969. During their last few years owning the camp, there was great need of major structural repairs and renovations. The camp came under new ownership and leadership in 2010. At that time, major renovation occurred to provide the kids with the best camp experience possible. Camp Sycamore Creek's goal is to continue to provide free camp use for Y.E.S. in a wonderful environment of nature. Impact Our greatest accomplishments at Camp Sycamore Creek this year have been: 1) expanding, leveling and seeding the athletic field 2) placing a protective barrier backstop on athletic field at home plate 3) added two new soccer goals 4) constructed platform for 20 ft (diameter) authentic teepee for use in additional activity and learning space 5) purchased large recreational slip-n-slide for use in summer camps 6) placed new doors and entry stoops on cabins and bathhouses. In the near future, CSC plans to 1) construct outdoor shelter and tables for use at archery range 2) install culverts and drainage grates for gravel drive to prevent wash-outs from rain 3) purchase archery equipment and become certified for NASP (National Archery in Schools Program) 4) install commercial doors on dining hall 5) plant and cultivate indigenous herbs and trees for future outdoor/wilderness camps 6) add additional zipline to high ropes course. Needs Upgrade drainage for gravel drive - $15,000Purchase three stationary evaporative coolers - $6000 Purchase and install two commercial doors for dining hall - $5000Purchase sound system and projector - $5000Add additional zip line - $7000Purchase 100 sanitary mattress covers for entire camp- $3600 Please visit our website for more information on how to help. Board Chair Statement As an ex-teacher and coach, I have always been involved with helping children. I have always tried to enrich their lives. I believe that inner city children need the most help of all. The inner city children live in a environment that many of us can't even imagine. You can make a difference in the lives of these children by giving them the opportunity of a lifetime - a trip to summer camp! Camp helps children escape from the negative activity they face in their neighborhoods every day. Camp will give them the opportunity to spend a week in a safe, positive environment surrounded by caring counselors and staff. CEO Statement Camp Sycamore Creek is working to ensure that no inner city child is denied the benefits of summer camp due to financial disadvantage. Thousands of children in our inner cities need financial help to get to camp this summer. It's more than recreation, it's changing a life. Many children have never had the opportunity to explore outside of their own neighborhoods. Our camp can provide this life changing experience for these children. 3

Programs Programs Ropes Course Description Presently includes a professionally installed 300" zip line, a 60" giant swing and a 35" leap of faith. Future plans include a rock climbing wall and both a high ropes course and a low ropes course. Population Served,, Inner City Youth Summer Camp Description Category The main mission is to provide children from the inner city areas of middle Tennessee with the opportunity to attend a week of summer camp where they can enrich their lives spiritually, physically and emotionally. Camp Sycamore Creek works with various non-profit organizations to provide the facility for the young people enrolled in their individual programs and does not discriminate based on race, religion or economic status. Youth Development Youth Development, General/Other Population Served Youth/Adolescents only (14-19 years),, Law Enforcement Community Relations Description Category Camp Sycamore Creek wants to provide the facility for law enforcement agencies, both local and state, to conduct events in which they can build better relationships with the constituents they serve. This is especially important when dealing with inner city youth, who are often fearful and distrustful of the law enforcement officers who serve their neighborhoods. Youth Development Youth Development, General/Other Population Served Youth/Adolescents only (14-19 years),, Youth Physical Fitness Awareness Description Category Camp Sycamore Creek plans to expand the physical fitness activities that are available as much as possible. Increasing the awareness of youth about the importance of physical fitness and good nutrition is an important part of the development of a well-rounded individual. Youth Development Youth Development, General/Other Population Served Youth/Adolescents only (14-19 years),, CEO Comments One of the major challenges is to fund the many activities that we want to include at the camp that would teach effective leadership skills, communication skills, respect for each other and to pull resources to succeed in reaching a common goal. Hopefully these activities will help to make these children better citizens. 4
