Scholarship Selection Criteria ELIGIBILITY: To be eligible for a scholarship offered by the Herndon High School (HHS) Choral Boosters, HHS students must meet the following criteria: Herndon High School senior Successfully completed at least three years of choral classes while attending HHS In the next academic year (summer or fall of 2018), enter an accredited educational institution that requires tuition and/or fees SELECTION PROCESS: The 2018 scholarship recipient(s) will be officially announced during the HHS Senior Awards Banquet. Scholarship(s) will be presented in the form of a check to the recipient(s) or educational institution. Scholarship(s) are awarded based upon rating criteria and not upon financial need. Judges are members of the Herndon High School Choral Boosters and are not parents of Herndon High School seniors. The HHS Choir Director is not a judge. REQUIRED FORMS/DOCUMENTATION: All forms must be filled out completely and contain the required signature(s). Incomplete forms will result in disqualification. Every application must contain the following: DEADLINE: Student Scholarship Application Form... 1 signature Student Accomplishments Form. 1 or more signatures Student s Class History from the Student Information System (SIS) Faculty or Staff Letter of Recommendation (may not be HHS Choir Director[s]) Proof of acceptance to accredited educational institution; copy of acceptance letter is an option. Herndon, VA 20170 If mailing, the envelope must be postmarked by May 18, 2018. Please note, large envelopes measuring more than 8-1/2 x 11 do not receive postmarks. It is recommended that applications be sent using a #10 or business size envelope measuring 4-1/8 x 9-1/2 as these are postmarked. Be sure to affix sufficient postage. Applicants may not submit forms by hand to the choral director, any member of the HHS staff, or any member of the Scholarship Selection Committee. If emailing, it is suggested that a receipt confirmation be requested. FACULTY OR STAFF LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION: The form explaining the letter of recommendation should be given to a teacher or staff member of choice, excluding the choral director, in time for him/her to complete and email/mail the letter and form to the above address by May 18, 2018. The letter of recommendation is NOT to be returned to the student, and can only be emailed or mailed directly to the Scholarship Selection Committee. (It is suggested that the student provide a pre-addressed and stamped envelope. The student should be certain sufficient postage is attached, and address the envelope to the committee at the above address.) To meet the deadline, it is recommended that this be given to a teacher or staff member well in advance of the deadline. It is best to discuss the deadline with the faculty or staff member to be sure s/he feels it is feasible. Student Accomplishments Form Instructions: Please indicate by ensemble and production, including your role, contributions and accomplishments supporting choral activities, including ensembles, performances, volunteer work, fundraising efforts, special honors, and non-hhs musical activities. Include activities such as serving as class officer in choir, serving in a related committee or organization, taking voice lessons, being in cabaret, performing in districts, etc. Applicant should be as specific as possible. Please be sure to have the HHS Choir Director sign this form, as well as the director of any non-hhs musical activities. Applicant may attach an additional sheet, if necessary.
