Barnhardt, who taught math to students ranging from elementary school through community college for many years, and in honor of Robert A. Barnhardt, who received his M.Ed. and Ed.D. from Curry, worked in the field of education as a teacher, administrator, and dean, and served on the Curry School Foundation Board. Joan Larie Bell This scholarship was established in memory of Joan Larie Bell by her family. Eli M. Bower Fellowship This fellowship was established in memory of Eli M. Graham This scholarship was established by Mrs. Gladys Graham, an alumna and long-time supporter of the Curry School. In top quarter of the class. Mary Alice Gunter & Edgar J. Gunter, Jr. Dr. Mary Alice Gunter was an associate professor emeritus in the Curry School and former Executive Director of the Foundation. Dr. Edgar J. Gunter is a professor emeritus of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. This scholarship was endowed by family and friends to honor their years of dedication to teaching and to the University. Demonstrate expertise and creativity in using technology in their program. Express a commitment to teaching in Virginia's public schools. Linwood and Virginia Holton This scholarship was established as a part of the Curry School s Governors initiative, a program initiated in 1997 to honor former governors in the Commonwealth for their leadership and contribution to education in Virginia. Linwood Holton served as Virginia s Governor from 1970-1974. Thomas Jefferson Governor s The Thomas Jefferson Governor s was established in 1997 by Alice B. Williams to honor Virginia s past governors who saw the importance of education for the well-being of the Commonwealth and to provide financial assistance to Curry students entering their fifth year in the five-year teacher education program. Little Keswick Foundation for Special Education This scholarship was established in 2010 by the Board of the Little Keswick Foundation Graduate Masters Entering fifth year of the Five-year Program Completed at least one year in the Special Education Masters Program Academic excellence William C. Lowry This scholarship was established by friends of William C. Lowry upon his retirement. Samuel Marx This scholarship was established by Ellie Marcus Marx in memory of her husband, Samuel Marx, and also as an expression of appreciation for being the first recipient of a Master of Arts degree granted during a summer session at the University. Hunter Page Taylor Memorial This scholarship was established by the family and friends of Hunter Taylor in his memory. Leavell Award The Leavell Award was initiated in the mid- 1960s by Mrs. Ullin W. Leavell in memory of her husband, long-time director of the McGuffey Reading Center. Richard A. Meade Award This award was established in memory of Dr. Richard Meade. Graduate Reading Graduate English Education Outstanding student. Concentration in elementary education. Studying reading.
