First Baptist Greenville, SC Yuth Mentring Team Psitin Descriptin Under the supervisin f the Minister f Yuth and Recreatin and in cperatin with the ther members f the yuth and activities staff, church staff, internship cmmittee, lay leadership and ther cmmittees f FBG, the Yuth Mentr is respnsible fr the crdinatin and executin f arrangements fr yuth activities by prviding administrative and clerical supprt. First Baptist s Yuth Mentr Team will be staffed by cllege student(s) wh have cmpleted at the minimum their first year f schl. Yuth Mentr s primary respnsibility and fcus is wrking clsely with the yuth ministry staff, yuth and their families. Preference in selectin will be given t cllege student(s) whm have shwn genuine interest and cmmitment t the First Baptist Greenville Yuth Ministry. Purpse Statement f Yuth Mentring Team The Yuth Mentring Team f First Baptist Greenville will assist in all aspects f ministry t yuth (grades 6 thrugh cllege) fr the summer with their primary fcus being n building and strengthening relatinships within ur Yuth Family. The Yuth Mentring prgram is designed t prvide an pprtunity fr cllege students t identify strengths, gifts, interests, and abilities; invest in this yuth ministry and its members; and help create a sense f trust, respect, and bnd between ur yuth and yuth leaders. YMT JOB DESCRIPTION Tw Pssible Jb Structures: 1) Sl Yuth Mentr During a summer in which ne cllege student has been hired, the Yuth Mentr will cllabrate with the Yuth Ministry staff. The individual needs t be self-mtivated and driven, in rder t accmplish tasks by the deadline. 2) Team Envirnment During a summer in which mre than ne cllege student has been hired, the Yuth Mentrs will functin mst ften as a team. Yuth Mentrs will cllabrate, and divide wrk up as it is assigned, in rder t accmplish tasks by the deadline. The Yuth Ministry Staff may assign sme tasks t individual Mentrs based n their gifts and talents. Time Frame: 10-week psitin with average 25-30 hurs/week. May 20, 2018 July 29, 2018 Schedule / Time Cmmitment: Sme days/weeks will require mre hurs than thers. YMT Respnsibilities & Duties Prvide assistance t Yuth Minister and Yuth Staff in rganizing and carrying ut details fr yuth trips /retreats, weekly activities and meetings as needed clerical wrk, rganizatin, maintenance chres, run errands, etc. Prvide assistance t Yuth Minister and Yuth Staff during trips/retreats, activities, events, etc. as needed chapernes, errand runner, small grup leader, clean-up, etc. Participate in weekly meetings with Yuth Ministry team - day/time TBD Review, rganize, priritize and assign task list(s) in cnjunctin with ther calendars (church events, ther emplyment, persnal engagements, etc.) Review/Reprt f Summer Assignment Centering/Bible Study/Reflectin (A cntemplative prayer/discussin time will take place each week in a designated area in the church.) Attend Internship Cmmittee gatherings fr evaluatins and check-ins as scheduled. 3
Develp, plan, rganize, advertise and lead summer activities and events fr Yuth (with the guidance frm the yuth minister and yuth ministry staff) Yuth Bible Study (Sunday nights) Missin Pssible (Thursday mrnings) Lunch Club (Thursdays at nn) Misc. missin prjects Misc. events / activities (ie: 80 s Prm, Guys/Gal Day,Dllywd) Plan, rganize, advertise and lead Mnday night Bible studies fr FBG Cllege students. Serve as a cmmunicatin and infrmatin link within the Yuth Family. Help maintain up-t-date infrmatin thrugh email, phne calls r texts Manage/Update Yuth Family s scial media utlets (Facebk & Instagram) Help maintain an rganized and clean ffice envirnment and facility Attend with the Yuth Minister, cmmittee meetings in which they serve as staff liaisn. YMT Expectatins and General Wrk Envirnment: Ministry is a vcatin in which we ften d nt have a rigid n/ff, r start/stp envirnment. Ministry smetimes is nt cnvenient, but that des nt decrease the imprtance f the wrk we are ding tgether. During yur internship this summer yu will have sme weeks that are lnger (even having t wrk vertime) than ther weeks. Yu may nt be n a strict 9 am 5 pm schedule in rder fr yu t accmplish all f yur tasks. Please understand, tasks must be cmpleted and cannt be left fr yur supervisr t pick up. Yu need t cmplete yur tasks, and smetimes that means wrking lnger than expected hurs. This wrk envirnment is relatinal. There will be times that yu need t spend time with ther staff members as they engage yu in cnversatin. This is imprtant. This is hw ur church cnnects with yu. Please try t balance this time, knwing that yu als have respnsibilities t accmplish each day. Prductivity vs Free Time. We expect yu t make gd decisins when balancing yur free time with being prductive. There will be many times that it is easy t gf ff and enjy the time yu spend at the ffice. As ur yuth gather in the ffice n a daily basis, it is imprtant t cnnect with them and build relatinships with them t encurage cntinued participatin in ur church s yuth ministry when the summer is ver. Hwever, this needs t be balanced with daily tasks and assignments. Please understand yur supervisr may nt always be able t give yu a specific assignment because f deadlines in his/her jb respnsibilities. There is still a list f things that need t be accmplished that yu can fcus yur time ding. Yu will have an nging summer assignment as well ther day-t-day assignments that shuld be the fcus f yur attentin. Taking respnsibility fr all wrk, and any assignment r task given is a very imprtant piece f this summer. Yu are representing this church, and the staff that yu are 4
wrking with during the summer. Take seriusly yur tasks and see t it that all f yur tasks are finished n time, and accmplished with a standard pride. Speaking t and acknwledging everyne as yu mve thrugh the church, understanding the need t engage peple as their minister and a member f ur ministry team. Pssible Opprtunities & Vcatinal Explratin A Yuth Mentr may request t accmpany a staff member n hspital visits, r ther tasks t explre full-time ministry in the Church.
