As a key university in Project 985 (Project 985 was initiated by ex-president JIANG-Zemin in 1998 for establishing China s Ivy League universities.) and Project 211 (Project 211 was initiated in 1995 and aims at cultivating high-level elite for national economic and social development strategies.), Wuhan University is directly under the administration of the Education Ministry of the People's Republic of China. Boasting history of 116 years, the university can date back to Ziqiang Institute founded in 1893 by Zhang Zhidong, governor of Hubei and Hunan Provinces in late Qing Dynasty. Rolling physical features with the scenic Luojia Hill in it and the beautiful East Lake by its side, seeming in picturesque disorder have won Wuhan University honor of the most beautiful university in China. The university's course over the past 100 years has been closely bound up with the prosperity and decline of the motherland. With motto of get bestirred, develop perseverance, aspire after truth and blaze new trails, Wuhan University always has regarded China's rejuvenation as its own responsibility and has been making contributions to the prosperity of China and the progress of mankind. In 1999, the university was listed as one of China's most celebrated universities by Science, an authoritative periodical in the international scientific field. 1
The exchange camp consists of four sections, namely invitational contests, traditional Chinese culture workshops, leadership forum of international student organizations, and close contact with Chinese culture and natural scenery. The series of invitational contests include competitions of international collegiate academic report of polar expedition, business case analysis, Information Literacy, and the Happy Chinese Bridge contest themed in Chinese language and culture. The workshops are designed to equip participants with knowledge of traditional Chinese culture through seminars on Chinese painting and calligraphy, paper cutting, martial arts, tea ceremony, classical poetry chanting, etc. The leadership forum provides student leaders with a platform for mutual learning and exchanges over topics like qualities of international talents, development and cooperation of student organizations in the context of globalization. In the last section, participants will take a tour of the Three Gorges. As deepening of globalization, student organizations in top universities in China yearn for exchanges and cooperation with their counterparts overseas. This exchange camp is a great opportunity for world - wide student leaders to learn from each other, improve their capabilities of organizing and management, sharpen their thinking and eloquence, enhance their tactics of handling conflicts and seeking agreement while shelving difference, and in the mean time exercise their English proficiency. The exchange camp is a stage for cultural interaction and exhibition of passion and vitality of invited student organizations. Around 30 prestigious universities around the world will take part in the exchange camp. The judging panel is constituted of renowned scholars, experts from government and related departments. We believe that your participation is beyond welcome and will be highly rewarding. You can choose any of the four contests. (Please refer to attachments for detailed introduction.) International transportation fees should be taken by you, yet as for contestants entering the final round, expenses 2
of accommodation, transportation, conference and travelling accrued during their stay in Wuhan, as well as insurance premium will be covered by Wuhan University. (Please refer to program of the exchange camp for detailed information.) Or you can choose to participate in one of workshops. We also welcome applicants unable to entre the finals, and students willing to come as visitor join us. In the three cases, attendees have to pay their fees (expenses of accommodation, transportation, conference, travelling, and insurance premium) in advance.
