BUT THERE S STILL WORK TO DO Until this year, state arts funding had been cut more than 90% since 2001 -- positioning Michigan as the 48 th of 50 states in per capita arts funding in 2009. At least 108,000 students have NO access to arts education in Michigan schools (based on survey results of K thru 12 schools statewide in 2011-12). We must make a more compelling case for the powerful role that the arts and creativity bring to Michigan s reinvention.
