Building Stronger Partnerships in TB Treatment and Prevention A conference for medical, public health, and community service providers A CME/CNE Certified Training Activity Thursday, July 9, 2009 8:30 AM 1:05 PM Sponsored By: DC Department of Health - HIV AIDS Administration - Tuberculosis Control Program in partnership with the New Jersey Medical School Global Tuberculosis Institute and the UMDNJ-Center for Continuing and Outreach Education Conference Description This conference is designed to share TB information, build TB skills, and raise TB awareness in the District of Columbia. As DC moves from TB control to TB elimination, partnerships with key stakeholders become increasingly important. Conference topics include current TB issues on the global, national, and local fronts. Breakout sessions will share information and discuss issues regarding care coordination, medical management, prevention in the community, and TB skills - building. Target Audience Primary care providers, infectious disease specialists, infection control practitioners, laboratory personnel, public and private community service providers, governmental agencies, and others interested in TB prevention, control and elimination. Objectives At the end of this conference, participants will be able to: Interpret the epidemiology of tuberculosis in the District of Columbia and the United States in order to better treat TB patients and deal with sectors which serve patients at high risk for TB infection Utilize appropriate methods used for diagnosis and treatment of TB in order to more quickly identify latent TB infection and active TB disease in the community Develop behavioral and case management strategies to minimize non-adherence in patients taking TB medications Select an appropriate medication regimen for TB patients with co-morbidities to minimize adverse reactions, side effects, and toxicities Assess when and how to use the District of Columbia s TB Control Program and clinical services in order to report, diagnose, and treat TB patients within the Program s jurisdiction Apply recommended infection control and contact investigation practices during TB contact investigations in order to prevent transmission of M. tuberculosis Demonstrate the proper techniques to administer and interpret the tuberculin skin test in order to test for and diagnose TB infection in patients at risk for TB exposure
