American Society of Mechanical Engineers Michigan State University 2012 Sponsorship Prospectus
To Our Prospective Sponsors Greetings! On behalf of Michigan State Universities American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), it is my pleasure to invite your company to join in partnership and help to offer developmental and networking opportunities for mechanical engineering students. The American Society of Mechanical Engineers or ASME at Michigan State University strives to offer several opportunities or events every year for our fellow students that range from networking with companies, to simply fun activities. During the 2012-2013 school year however, we are trying to develop more ways for the students to become active in the industry and with ASME nationwide. These events include but are not limited to; junkyard wars, a trip to national conference, networking or corporate recruiting events, a mentorship program between industry and general members, and general meetings. Through our events, we strive to offer our members opportunities to engage within the industry and help to prepare for their future careers. It is through the help of corporate sponsorships that we are able to make our events possible. We offer the wide array of events, with room for growth and with the help of our current and future corporate sponsors. Through engaging in a partnership with ASME at Michigan State, employers will have the chance for additional advertisement and face time with mechanical engineering students. Our many networking events will allow for employers to get to know students and seek out the best and the brightest that MSU has to offer. In addition to simple networking opportunities, we will provide a resume book of all AMSE members to companies who are interested. Furthermore, we are always looking to expand. If employers would like special events catered to their needs for recruitment we are happy to facilitate and create additional events to help our students and corporate sponsors. Thank you for you interest in ASME and your dedication to the continual improvement of the engineering community. We greatly look forward to working with you in the future. Respectfully, Kyle L Watts Treasurer, American Society of Mechanical Engineers Michigan State University
Events Every year ASME hosts various networking and development events for our members, some of which include information sessions, junkyard wars, attending the national conference and several other just for fun events with our member students and sponsors Junkyard Wars: This event takes place in the Spring during Engineering Week. Students come together in teams of four to five and are given a task to complete within a given time constraint. Each team is given the same supplies and instructions and then are given free reign to design whatever they need in order to complete the task. Previous years have included building a hovercraft that will carry a student a given distance, and creating carts to carry a load through an obstacle course. This year however, Junkyard wars will go through major changes to further incorporate sponsors. The changes include adding complexity to the project, where last year it was building carts that, this year we are hoping to produce at a higher difficulty and involve many more professionals. ASME would like to include, on each team, an industry professional who will serve as a guide to the students, in addition we will involve the MSU faculty as judges. These additions to the previous year s junkyard wars will help to turn this event into more of a networking opportunity for students and the various companies that participate. National Conference This years conference will be held in Toronto Canada. Students attending will be able to be involved in workshops, network with different employers and individuals from around the nation, and further develop their leadership abilities. Mentorship Program We hope to kickstart this year a program linking upperclassmen, juniors and seniors, with a mentor who is currently in the industry. They will help with career advise, being a contact within a company for job shadowing and learning more about the industry, and providing advise on general matters of the transition between college life and into the working environment. Additionally, we are pairing interested juniors and seniors with freshmen and sophomores to help them transition into college life and provide advise on classes to take, ways to improve their overall experience at Michigan State, and tips on how to get internships and getting involved on campus.
