Greater Cleveland Council, BSA NOMINATION FOR THE SILVER BEAVER AWARD (2014) I take pleasure in presenting for consideration the nomination of the Scouter named below for the Silver Beaver Award: Name (Please provide full name, correctly spelled, and title, if any) Age Address City/State/Zip Telephone: Home Work Cell Email Address Occupation, Employer and Title I. Mandatory Requirements: A. Candidates for the award must be registered volunteer Scouters within the Greater Cleveland Council. B. Candidates must be at least 21 years of age. C. Candidates must have rendered noteworthy service of exceptional character to youth. It is recognized that the nature and value of noteworthy service to youth might take the form of actions which contributed to the lives of large numbers of youth or that the service might be given to a small group over an extended period of time. D. Nominations may not be considered for former professional Scouters or council employees within five (5) years of their leaving employment with the BSA. E. Nominations cannot be considered for posthumous awards. F. The council is limited in the number of Silver Beaver awards it can present each year and this is based on total units in a council and not the number of districts. This is not a district award. G. Nominations are due on or before December 1 st of each year to the Greater Cleveland Council Scout Center and may be sent via mail, fax or electronic mail. Nominations for those not selected are not automatically carried over to the next year but must be renewed by the nominator each year by notifying the Scout Center and preferably submitting an updated nomination. II. Desirable Requirements: A. Candidates should have demonstrated extended service to youth in Scouting. While there is no set time requirement, most recipients of the Silver Beaver have long service records, often a decade or more, rather than just a few years in Scouting. B. Candidates whose service is at the unit or district level usually should be recognized with the District Award of Merit before being nominated for the Silver Beaver. C. Candidates should have broader experience than just service to youth as demonstrated by involvement in other activities in their community outside of Scouting. D. Candidate s total service should be regarded as outstanding and beyond the mere role of their normal Scouting position.
