Bring a brown bag lunch. Coffee and water will be provided and cold drinks are available for 50 cents. You have to attend all day to get credit for the course. The cost is $20.00 per person or $15.00 if you are an AARP member. You must bring your AARP membership card in order to get the $15.00 discounted price. Certificates of completion will be mailed to you approximately two days after the course. A Sign-up sheet is posted on the Bulletin Board in the Hall. The Korean War Veteran s Association meets at the Branch Hall on the 4 th Tuesday of each month. The hall opens at noon and the meeting starts at 1300. Bins have been set up in the Branch Home for your donation of canned goods and staples. The deadline for your Christmas food basket donation is at the Family Christmas Dinner on 18 December. So please bring a Christmas Basket item to the Christmas Dinner along with your Covered Dish. Santa may be watching you BRANCH ACTIVITIES James J. Thomas... 291-1575 1. The Medical Equipment locker: We have many wheel chairs loaned out with a few available for check out at this time. These are high demand items so please be sure to bring them back as soon as you are done with them. We also have a good supply of canes, crutches, potty chairs & assorted equipment to loan out. Branch 126 Shipmates and Ladies participated in Veterans Day Parade in Jacksonville, FL on 11/11/16. Pictured L-R in front row are Shipmates Edward Hamilton, Donald Rodely, David Burris, Terrance Johnson and Bill Kulier. Standing on the trailer are Shipmate Johnny Johnson, Edith Johnson, Tessie Varra, Paul Hetz and Florence Kulier. A special thanks to Shipmate Hamilton for providing and operating the tow vehicle. Branch 126 President James J. Thomas (R) presented a Letter of Commendation to Shipmate Donald Walsh for achieving 50 years of continuous membership in the FRA. The award, presented at the Branch meeting of 20 October 2016, included a lapel pin and a Platinum Membership Card denoting a lifetime membership. 3

Don t Get Sick, Get Stuck - MEDICARE beneficiaries can get the flu shot at no cost from their doctor, a participating retail network pharmacy or from a military hospital or clinic. If you get the shot at a pharmacy, make sure that you get it from the pharmacist. If it is administered by another health professional at a clinic within the pharmacy, it may not be covered. If you get your flu shot from a military hospital or clinic, you may want to call ahead to find a good time and make sure it is available. Gates, USN, Retired, age 70, an FRA member since 1987, reported to the Staff of the Supreme Commander on 6 July 2016. Chief Petty Officer Gates was a resident of St Augustine, FL. Shipmate UT2 John JD Scott, USN, Retired, age 79, an FRA member since 2002 reported to the Staff of the Supreme Commander on 06 October 2016. SBP Benefits to 2nd Spouse The Defense Finance and Accounting Services (DFAS) is providing an open season for retirees enrolled in the Survivor Benefit Program (SBP). Those who are divorced with a deceased former spouse can change the SBP beneficiary from the former deceased spouse to a current spouse. The open season ends November 24, 2016. To be eligible for the change the following is required: Senior Shipmate AMC Synix E. Sullivan, USN, Retired, age 94, an FRA member since 1955, reported to the Staff of the Supreme Commander on 20 October 2016. Chief Petty Officer Sullivan was a resident of Franklin, NC. His passing was reported to the Branch President by his daughter in law. The deceased former spouse died before November 25, 2015 The retiree married the current spouse on or before November 25, 2015 The former-spouse coverage must have been canceled due to death DFAS has identified retirees they believe are eligible to make the change and were supposed to notify retirees by mail. If you believe you are eligible but did not receive a letter, you can contact DFAS at (800) 321-1080 to let them know you meet the eligibility criteria. 4

Starting last year, the DoD reported health care coverage of its service members and their dependents to the IRS. An elderly, but hardy cattleman from Texas once told a young female neighbor that if she wanted to live a long life, the secret was to sprinkle a pinch of gunpowder on her oatmeal each morning. She did this religiously and lived to the age of 103. She left behind 14 children, 30 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren and a 40 foot hole where the crematorium used to be. 5
