Guidelines for Our Visitors

welcome

Welcome to San Ramon Regional Medical Center We understand that patients may benefit from the comfort and company of visitors. However, rest is an important part of a patient s recovery from surgery or an illness. In an effort to provide the best care for our patients, the hospital staff wants to ensure that our patients have the opportunity to see visitors, and have adequate time to rest and recover during their hospitalization. Please consider this information when you visit someone in the hospital: Ask the nurse if the patient is well enough to have visitors, and if there are any restrictions. Visits may be restricted for patient rest, privacy or medical reasons. If a patient seems tired, please shorten your visit. Only healthy people may visit patients in the hospital. Please do not visit the hospital if you are sick, have a fever, cough, runny nose, or if you have been exposed to a communicable illness recently. We encourage all visitors to wash their hands before and after visiting each patient. Hand sanitizers are available. General hospital visiting hours are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Please see the following guidelines for each nursing unit. Extended visiting hours may be arranged with the nurse in charge. Children ages 5 and older are usually permitted to visit hospital patients. (See unit guidelines.) Visiting children are to be closely supervised by a visiting adult at all times. They may not be left alone in any areas of the hospital. Public restrooms are available for visitors on the first floor near the main hospital lobby and near the Café Ramon. Please do not use the patient restrooms. Please limit your cell phone usage to public waiting areas or outside the hospital building. Smoking is not permitted in or outside the hospital. Photography is restricted to family photos due to patient privacy. Pet visits must be approved in advance by the unit supervisor. If you have any questions or concerns, please ask to speak to your nurse, the department supervisor, or the hospital Nursing Supervisor.

CALLS TO NURSES Please appoint one family spokesperson who can act as the primary representative for communicating between the staff and the family, and calling the nurses station when necessary. If possible, please do not call the nurses station during change-of-shift times listed below. Please address the nurse with any questions or concerns regarding the patient s care. However, the status or diagnosis of a patient will be given only to immediate family or significant other. Due to patient privacy concerns, detailed information cannot be given over the telephone. NURSING UNIT-SPECIFIC GUIDELINES Visitor guidelines for specific nursing units are listed below. Visitors must be age 12 and older. No visitors are allowed during the nurses change of shift. Visitors may be asked to leave the ICU at the discretion of the nursing staff. ACCESS TO THE ICU: Please use the telephone located in the ICU waiting room to call the nurses station to enter the unit. The nurse will let you enter the unit when it is appropriate. Listen for the buzz and then open the door immediately. Cards, silk or artificial flowers, and Mylar balloons usually are permitted. Live flowers and latex balloons are not allowed. PEDIATRIC PATIENTS: Parents or guardians are welcome to unlimited visits, and one of them is encouraged to stay overnight with their child.
