MERCY MEDICAL CENTER FOUNDATION Existing to foster support for the mission and activities of Mercy Medical Center and its subsidiaries Mercy Medical Center Foundation

hen the Sisters of Mercy founded Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids in 1900, they expressed their objective that Mercy would be a peer of the best. This standard has never been compromised. State-of-the art equipment, the highest standards of care, the best-trained professionals, and The Mercy Touch continue to be our hallmarks. Mercy has maintained this standard only because of the generosity of the community. Now more than ever, Mercy needs your support in order to remain a peer of the best. In 1977, the Mercy Endowment Foundation was established to raise funds for Mercy s capital expenses. The initial gift from Howard and Margaret Hall, approved by the Hall Radiation Center Board, was followed by other gifts, large and small, from thousands of donors. With such support from its partners in caring, the Mercy Foundation has given over $54 million to Mercy Medical Center to support its mission to bring The Mercy Touch to life. You can become a Partner in Caring. All of the Foundation s gifts to Mercy have been possible through people like you who give primarily because they believe in the work of Mercy Medical Center. No gift is too small, none too large, if appropriate and freely given. You may give in memory or in honor of a relative or friend. You also may give for a designated service hospice, cardiac care, diabetes, etc. Gifts designated for Mercy s Greatest Need allow the Medical Center to apply the funds where they will be most useful at a specific time. he Mercy Touch is our standard of service excellence at Mercy. The Mercy Touch embodies our values of Integrity, Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Excellence (I CARE). We recognize that each patient s recovery is aided by caring surroundings, and we strive to create an atmosphere of friendliness, courtesy and concern for each patient, visitor and coworker. The Mercy Touch is incorporated into all aspects of the hospital s planning, operations and building projects. Examples are the hospital s commitment to providing all private patient rooms, private patios for each patient at the Hospice House, leading-edge technology, scholarships for nurses, and family spaces for loved ones. Simple things like locating linens and supplies near each patient room provide easy accessibility for the nursing staff. Wireless connections, flat screen TVs, and patientcontrolled blinds provide comfort and convenience. Vocera phones that nurses wear allow for faster and better communication between patient and nurse, as well as between nurse and ancillary services throughout the hospital. Playing the lullaby over the hospital sound system when new babies are born; partnering with other community groups to meet the healthcare needs of the community, and caring for all patients regardless of their ability to pay.that s The Mercy Touch. There s more to The Mercy Touch.

ifts to Mercy help preserve the mission of the hospital: to care for the sick and enhance the health of the communities we serve, guided by the spirit of the Sisters of Mercy. For more than 100 years, Mercy has provided care and comfort to the sick and their families. Mercy needs your support to continue this healing ministry. As one donor stated, From the birth of your child to the end-of-life care for a loved one and all the medical needs in-between, Mercy goes above and beyond to provide the finest in care. Supporting Mercy is supporting excellence. Mercy is a local, not-for-profit hospital dedicated to serving the health care needs of our community. Community leaders and the Sisters of Mercy comprise the board of trustees who make decisions in the best interest of patients and families who come to Mercy for care. Two significant factors are impacting the costs of healthcare in our state: The growing number of elderly. Iowa s elderly population (60 years and older) equals more than 19% of Iowa s entire population. Affordable and quality healthcare are increasingly becoming a priority. The low rate of Medicare reimbursement. Iowa typically ranks in the bottom half of all 50 states for Medicare reimbursement. Your donations can fill the gap in funding and provide critical support for quality medical care in our area. Every dollar given to Mercy stays at Mercy. Whether it is to care for those without the ability to pay or bring cutting-edge technology to Mercy, your gifts truly make a difference. The regional cancer center, a comprehensive diabetes center, state-of-the-art cardiovascular center and all private patient rooms that aid in faster healing and shorter stays became a reality in part to the generous donations of so many. Remember, supporting Mercy supports excellence.

he Founders Society of the Mercy Medical Center Foundation honors individuals who have shown their commitment to the healing mission of Mercy through their planned or endowed gifts or lifetime gifts of $50,000 or more. These partners in caring insure the strength of Mercy Medical Center by providing a secure financial footing for the future. As medical advancements increase, organizations with resources beyond their operating revenues are able to remain on the leading edge of healthcare delivery. If you would like to join the Founders Society, contact the Mercy Medical Center Foundation at (319) 398-6206. Any planned gift qualifies you for membership. Planned gifts are created through charitable trusts, charitable gift annuities, life insurance policies, real estate, bequests or retirement plan designations. You can also join the Founders Society by establishing an endowed fund with the Mercy Foundation. Contact the Foundation staff for more information about endowed funds. A well-designed planned gift can often lessen your tax burden while at the same time increase your income and still provide for your heirs. To design a gift that benefits the people and charities you love, we recommend that you obtain the counsel of an attorney who specializes in gift estate planning. New Founders Society members are honored at an annual banquet sponsored by the Mercy Foundation.

Private Room Sponsorships Lend us your good name for a good cause Every patient and family wants the comfort and privacy of a private room. More importantly, research shows that patients in private rooms heal more quickly, require less pain medication, acquire fewer infections and have shorter hospital stays. That means even better patient outcomes, and nothing is more important to us than the quality of care we provide our patients. Because the total cost for private room renovation projects is over $30 million, your support at any level is greatly needed. There are many different opportunities from which to choose. While the sponsorship levels may be different, our deep gratitude for your generosity remains the same. Entire Floor Sponsorship $1,000,000 One Patient Room $5,000 Nurse s Station $10,000 Staff break room $10,000 Family Lounge $10,000 Staff Work Room $10,000 Lobby Art $5,000 Corridor Art $1,000 At each level of sponsorship, we will honor your contribution with an engraved wall plaque. You may also choose to honor or memorialize a loved one, group or your own family. When the rooms need to be refurbished in approximately 10-15 years, you will have the first opportunity to continue your sponsorship.

very day, Mercy nurses bring both their technical skills and The Mercy Touch to our patients. They are key players in delivering excellent care and compassionate professionalism. Both endowed and non-endowed scholarships offered by the Mercy Foundation enable nursing students to complete their degrees, either undergraduate or graduate, and help recruit and retain the best and brightest nurses at Mercy Medical Center. You can help assure the nursing residency program and the best possible nursing care at Mercy by offering a nursing scholarship in your name, or in honor or memory of a loved one. You may fund the scholarship each year, or you may choose to create an endowment that will fund the scholarship in perpetuity. Endowed scholarships begin at a level of $15,000. Contact the Mercy Foundation at (319) 398-6206 to learn more about how you can support Mercy nurses. We need your help to bring The Mercy Touch to life.
