For those of you who are new to our school community, I hope the transition is going well and you are experiencing a sense of Joy and peace in your decision to join the ASCS family. I have received some feedback the how wonderful things are going for the children and feedback on some procedural practices that need improvement or at least better communication as to how things work around here. I appreciate hearing from you, both the good things happening as well as input as to how we can improve. Every once in a while I take time to do a posting I title Did you know. In it I highlight some things that have occurred or will occur in the near future. This is one of those posts! Did you know Our enrollment is up 10 students for a total of 638 from the previous school year during a time when schools are reporting a declining enrollment? We have 15 more students enrolled in grades K4-1 st than we did last year? We celebrate Mass with the children once weekly and the children take part in the various ministries? Our teachers are posting Learning Targets in every classroom to help the children be mindful of what they are learning and in some classes the students are even assessing their own learning on a 4,3,2, 1 scale? Our 5 th graders have been invited to the Milwaukee Italian Community Center to study Italian culture, play Bocce ball, make pasta, learn about immigration and even have a language lesson all free of charge? Our Middle School Musical is You re a Good Man Charlie Brown? The students in grades 1-5 study an Engineering Unit called Engineering is Elementary each school year? All of our K4 and K5 teachers have been certified in Wisconsin Model Early Learning Standards? Our Saints In Training Program has over 60 students enrolled? Our Cardinal Club provides before and after school care and homework help too? Our Volleyball season is off to a great start with multiple teams at each grade level? Our 4th/5th graders won the softball championship? November 1 st we will gather ALL of the students at the South Campus (dropoff will be there) for the Solemnity of All Saints? October 13 th and 14 th is a Fall Break for students as the teachers will be attending the Teachers Convention? There is a Middle School Social this Friday? South Campus has many volunteers for lunch and recess yet North and West are still in need volunteers so our teachers can have time to eat their own lunch? Our children, teachers, staff and families Rock? The principal of ASCS is grateful to be serving this awesome community? Please consider ordering scrip. Orders are due each Sunday night. More scrip information can be found on our school website. Special points of interest: HELP NEEDED... Volunteers for lunch recess are needed at the North and West campus. Please call us if you are available to help. Thank you! HOME & SCHOOL MEMBERSHIP DUES... If you haven t paid yet please send in as soon as possible. All parents are members of the Home & School Association and we serve all ASCS students! PLEASE... IF YOU SEND A LUNCH WITH YOUR CHILD THAT NEEDS TO BE MICROWAVED, YOUR CHILD MUST KNOW HOW TO OPERATE THE MICROWAVE THEMSELVES! These are some of our concerns: How long? What can be microwaved? No foil! Does it need to be covered? there just isn t enough time for everyone to use it not enough volunteers to assist Putting foil in the microwave Microwaving too long... Almost burned mouth

October 2nd, 9:15-10:15 AM, St. Mary Parish, Bell Hall Richard Aiello - will be presenting a session focusing on "How parents can help guide their children to stay clear form the destructive behaviors that may be surrounding their teenage years." For the past 27 years, Dick has taught or has been an administrator in our Kenosha schools. He has worked with teenagers from all walks of life. He will offer his thoughts on how we can parent our kids through their teenage years, keep them healthy and safe, and continue a good relationship with them.
