The Royal Canadian Legion West Carleton Branch 616 APRIL 2017 VOLUME 8, ISSUE 11 April 2017 Newsletter Branch 616 thanks the executive, the volunteers, the Ladies Auxiliary and the clientele for a very eventful month of March. March went out like a lamb (ish) and although lots of snow remains, spring has sprung and we are preparing for spring things! Branch elections are coming up, it s the end of dart season, it s time to start your bulbs and seeds indoors for transplanting later, and time to reserve your Legion garden plot. 377 Allbirch Road, Constance Bay, ON, K0A 3M0 (613) 832-2082 E-mail legion_616@ymail.com Facebook https://www.facebook.com/royal-canadian- Legion-Branch-616-West-Carleton- 476319465789285/timeline/ Highlites..... Pictures...... Coming Up... Don t Forget.. Calendars..... The sports program is almost over for the season: the Branch has District coming up and the Ladies Auxiliary could see a team going to Provincial darts. The L.A. sent two teams to Districts at Dave Matthews Branch 631 and there is a possibility that one team will advance. Chad McTernan and Heidi Karow won the Zone Mixed Doubles event at Branch 192 Carleton Place and are moving up to District. Thanks to them, Branch 616 will be hosting the Mixed Darts Tournament next year. Elections for the executives of the Branch and Ladies Auxiliary will be held in May. If you are inclined to run for office, please be sure you are a member in good standing and have held membership for one year. To run for President or vice President, you must have held an executive position for at least a year. If you wish to be a candidate, pre-election forms are at the bar for you to record your intent. All members are urged to seriously consider running for office. Sandhills Senior s will also hold elections. The Ladies Auxiliary Vesey Bulb fundraiser is underway. You may view the catalogue at the Branch or call for info. The deadline for ordering is April 21: your bulbs will arrive within 2 weeks, in time for May planting. Past Events: Friday, March 10:. Winners of this session were Maureen Harvey and Arleen Morrow. Sandra and John Cooper were second. Newsletter by Arleen Morrow & Marilyn Deslauriers Friday, March 17: St. Patrick s Party. Wasn t that a party! More than 100 packed the Branch with more than 80 of them trying the TGIF Irish stew dinner which was a sell-out! And everyone enjoyed the Irish/Canadian stylings of musicians Danny Strong, Travis Strong,

Thank you to all the volunteers who worked to make this one of the best events of the year! Saturday, March 18: Ladies Annual Theresa Wilson Memorial Dart Tournament. The Branch was crowded with teams from as far away as Renfrew! The team of Diane Rintoul, Nancy Cameron, Janie Thompson & Denise Brisbois from Carleton Place were the winners. Thank you to the following: Harriet Farrell for organizing this event every year, Gloria Wilson and our student Dom in the kitchen, and the 616 girls for their donations. Friday, March 31: Trivia Challenge! Turkey dinner with all the trimmings by Harriet was followed by the trivia challenge which was run this week by Kevin Johnson.
