What s Inside: We LOVE Our 4-Hers! Educator Comments 4-H Opportunities Jr. Leader Info More! During this time of year, the stores fill with hearts, goodies, balloons, and gifts that describe feelings of love or care. We hope that you know our office loves our 4-H members! We enjoy seeing them get involved in our program to learn and grow. We like how they are able to showcase their hard work at the County Fair. Most of all, we are happy when they are happy! This month, we have a lot of activities that we hope you will love! Be sure to check out page 2 to learn more about our upcoming New 4-H Family Orientation. Find out more about our robotics program on page 2. We are showing our volunteers some love this month too with our Volunteer Appreciation Event! See page 2 for more details. 4-Hers, this month we hope that you show more than your Valentine how much you appreciate them. We hope that you take time to thank all of the volunteers, parents, mentors, and other people who have helped you throughout your 4-H career! Parents and adult volunteers, we hope that you will find a way to tell your 4-Her just how much they mean to you this month! Let s fill this month with love and opportunity for 4-H! Jr. Leaders Thank you to everyone who brought items for the Riley Cheer Guild for our January meeting. We donated more than 100 items! Way to go!! Our next meeting will be Friday, February 17th at the Boone County Fairgrounds for the Area 6 Jr. Leader Event. You will need to turn in your registration form, health form, youth behavioral expectation form, and $5 by Friday, February 10th in order to reserve your spot on the bus! The bus will leave from the Hendricks County 4-H Fairgrounds by 5 p.m. on the 17th and will return around 10:30 p.m. that night. For questions, please contact the Hendricks County Extension Office. See attached flyer for more details. Do you have a design for the 2017 Jr. Leader T-shirt? Be sure to email it to Kati by Friday, February 17th!! We will be doing an online vote to select this year s design. Email Kati at kasweet@purdue.edu. Mark your calendars for our March 16th meeting! We will be bowling! More info coming soon! Fairboard Info The next Fairboard meeting will be on February 6th at 7 p.m. at the Hendricks County 4-H Fairgrounds. 4-H OPPORTUNITIES Find out what s going on in the 4-H World New Family Orientation If your family has a 4-H member that has been in 4-H less than 3 years, you should be getting an invitation to our New 4-H Family Orientation on Monday, February 13th! The event starts at 7 p.m. for regular 4-H members. Mini 4-H will have a special orientation starting at 6:30 p.m. Come learn about our program and ask questions! RSVP soon! Light refreshments will be provided. 4-H Queen Call Out Information There will be an informational session for the 4-H Queen Contest February 9 at 7 PM at the Hendricks County Fairgrounds. You must be 16 as of January 1 to participate. Robotics Program Booming! Our 4-H Robotics program is off to a great start this year!! Our next meeting will be Monday, February 20th from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Hendricks County 4-H Fairgrounds. Come ready to learn, program, build, and more! VOLUNTEER INFORMATION Are you a volunteer? Check out these tips and information Volunteer Help Needed!! We have many clubs and projects that are still in need of additional help! If you are interested in helping with your local club or a 4-H Project, please contact the Hendricks County Extension Office! We would like all projects to have a volunteer and all clubs to have at least two leaders! It s the perfect time for YOU to get more involved! :) Volunteer Appreciation Event Camp Counselors 4-H Camp Counselor information will be coming out soon! We will be planning another 4-H Camp Counselor Bootcamp which is great for all first time counselors or youth interested in learning about what it takes to be a camp counselor! If you are in 9th-12th grade, be on the look out in the mail and in your email for more information! Fairgrounds & Conference Complex Internship Opportunity The 4-H Fairgrounds & Conference Complex is seeking an Intern for the summer. PROJECT SPOTLIGHT Foods: Food Preparation Valentine s Day is this month. Prepare a meal for your loved ones while practicing what you re going to make for your Food Preparation project in 4-H this year. The Food Preparation project is to give young people a chance to develop their skills in preparing different types of food dishes. This project differs from the traditional project in that all foods prepared for exhibit in Food Preparation are perishable items that cannot be exhibited in any division of the Foods Project. So practice your meal planning skills on your loved ones this Valentine s Day. The Food Preparation Project typically has workshops in late spring/early summer. Keep your eyes open for upcoming workshop opportunities! Club Audits/Reviews Every year, 20% of Hendricks County 4-H Clubs must have financial reviews. The clubs that will be reviewed on February 9th will be: Center Stage 4-Hers Lucky Clovers Working Wonders Liberty Eagles Green Action Clovers Sheep Club Happy Healers Dog Club Jr. Leaders, Shooting Sports, Beef Club, and Bridle Bunch will also be reviewed due to their large club numbers on February 8th. Club Leaders will be sent more information in the mail. PLEASE NOTE: ALL CLUBS are required to fill out the Financial Report forms regardless of audit schedule. Livestock Info 4-H Livestock members be sure to mark your calendars for tagging dates: March 18th (Beef/Dairy Beef) and May 13th (Beef, Dairy Beef, Sheep, Goats). More information will be heading your way soon!! Keep your eyes posted for a mailing! Remember, it s never too early to start your livestock workbooks! Need something to do to beat the Winter Blues? Stop by our office and pick up your livestock manuals and other 4-H project books! Leaders The next Leaders meeting will be on March 16 at 7 p.m. at the Hendricks County 4-H Fairgrounds. We will have goodies for your TEAM Kits, information for all volunteers, and more! Council Info Our next 4-H Youth Council meeting is February 27 at 7 p.m. As a reminder Audit Committee will be meeting February 8th & 9th for club audits. Trip Committee will be meeting February 7th at 6 p.m.

Check out just a few of the upcoming workshops: Rabbit: 2/2, 2/21, 3/16, The first few workshops will be a chance for you to get to know the rabbit project and meet other members/leaders! Dog: Every Monday starting 2/6/17 Some workshops will include your dogs and others are just for you to learn about the program! Poultry: 2/17, 3/17, 3/24, We have new leaders for the poultry project! Come learn about what they have planned for the project! Sewing: 2/19/17 at JoAnn Fabrics in Avon Learn more about the sewing project, talking with judges, and more! SPARK Sewing: 2/7, 3/7 (these require RSVPs) Join other 4-H members as you learn about careers in sewing, basics of the craft, and more! Vet Science: third Wednesday of the month starting 2/15/17 Complete workbook activities, tour a vet clinic, and more! ANR UPDATE Updates from our Ag & Natural Resources Educator Upcoming ANR Programs On Local Government Webinar: February 15 at 11 am 1 pm at the Hendricks County Fairgrounds. This webinar will be in the middle of the State Legislative session and we ll be discussing proposed bills with an impact on local government finance, as well as the State Budget. Cost is FREE, but pre-registration is required. To register call the Extension office at 317-745-9260 or email hendrces@purdue.edu Beginners Guide to Grant Writing: February 21 and March 21, 9 am 4:30 pm at the Hendricks County Fairgrounds. Cost is $175 and includes all materials and lunch on both days. Program is a great skill builder for the beginner and intermediate grant writer. At the end of Day One, you will have a proposal outline and all of the resources you need to expand your outline into a full proposal. Return on Day Two with your full proposal and we will put you into the role of a reviewer, teach you strategies for finding funding, and provide you with an opportunity to polish your proposal and send it in for a strong professional review.
