Team Captain One of the most important volunteer leadership positions in the area ministry is the team captain. All teams should have a captain to work in partnership with the Area Director to ensure that champions share in the OWNERSHIP of the ministry with the local staff, regional staff, volunteer leaders, and local donors. Just like a captain on a sports team, you take ownership of the teams success/failure. Along with the area director, provide leadership for the team Act as a advocate between area staff and team members Take ownership for the recruitment, selection, retention and retirement of team members Place new team members in positions to best utilize their talents Lead in developing a vision for Young Life s potential in the community Plan & Leader effective meetings with team members Create ownership of the ministry with team members & the community Delegate work to team members Hold team members accountable to tasks assigned Taking ownership with the Area Director of the overall health and effectiveness of the team Solid relationship with the Area Director Has the gift of leadership Can motivate others Is organized Is able to plan and lead meetings Can delegate and hold people accountable TIME REQUIREMENT: 6+ Hours Per Month; More Time Needed In Months Leading Up To Events and Fiscal/Calendar Year End
Leader Care Champion Being a volunteer leader is a rewarding responsibility! However, building friendships with kids in order to earn the right to tell them about Jesus and helping them grow in their faith can be taxing. Therefore, staff and leaders need extra care and support. A Leader Care Champion will have a major role in providing this care. Planning and organizing the care of the local staff and volunteer leaders o Prayer Support o Mentoring Support o Thanking Leaders on a regular basis Help recruit new leaders for the area Help encourage retention of current leaders Area-Wide Leader Care: The champion should plan and organize 4 area-wide events to care for the staff and volunteer leaders. Possibilities might include a beginning-of-the-year welcome/appreciation picnic, a Christmas meal with a white elephant exchange and an end-of-year thank you dinner with an appreciation gift. Available team members should attend these activities when possible. Individual Leader Care: The champion should plan ways to individually care for each volunteer leader specifically at least once per year. Letters, gift cards, lunches out, etc are all ideas. Banquet Champion Young Life exists in an area because the community is willing and able to financially support the ministry. 100% of the funds need to be raised locally! That said, the banquet is an important event each year in a local area. The banquet serves to celebrate, inform, proclaim the Gospel, affirm, give thanks and raise financial support. The Banquet Champion oversees the entire event, with the help of the Area Director. Finance Development Champion Taking Donors Seriously (TDS), Young Life s finance development strategy, is only effective with a Finance Development Champion. He or she is the driving force of the area s ability to create a realistic budget and to raise that budget from the local area. Aside from the Area Director, the TDS Chair will take major responsibility for the financial health of the area. Help recruit a Finance Development team Help plan the Fiscal Year Budget & take ownership with the Area Director of raising the budget, using the principles of TDS Attend annual regional TDS training sessions Hold the Development team members accountable to their responsibilities in regards to raising finances and caring for current donors Develop a system to manage and update the area s Field Development Tool (PPL and Cash Flow) Has the gift of leadership Is honest and trustworthy Is organized Is talented with finances, budgeting and/or accounting Can delegate and hold people accountable TIME REQUIREMENT: 4+ Hours Per Month; More Time Needed In Months Leading Up To Fiscal/Calendar Year End
Communications/Promotion Champion The members of the local community should be aware of and informed about the ministry of Young Life. By utilizing current media sources, Young Life s mission can be more fully communicated to the general public. Hopefully, by having a clear understanding of the ministry and its activities, Young Life will be more positively received by the local community. The Communications Champion will work closely with the area director to ensure that all significant Young Life activities and events are publicized in a timely manner. Ensure that our area has an End-Of-Year Newsletter printed and sent out each November Ensure that the Young Life area is represented and/or advertized at all available community events, sporting events, etc Ensure that the area s website(s) are updated on a regular basis Put together and send our are enewsletter on the 15 th of every month Seek out creative and cost effective ways to advertize/promote Young Life in any available avenue Has good verbal and written skills Is creative Has good organizational skills Able to set priorities and timetables Ideally familiar with Microsoft Publisher & Word, Facebook, & Constant Contact TIME REQUIREMENT: 4+ Hours Per Month
Campership Champion Jim Rayburn, founder of Young Life, understood the power of camping. When kids are at camp, the Gospel can more effectively be communicated to them because they are having fun with friends and Young Life leaders and are away from the pressures of everyday life. The Campership Champion will take ownership of the health and growth of the area s camping ministry. Set specific goals with the Area Director: How many kids we will take to camp and how much $$ we need to raise to make it happen? Raise funds to help send more kids to camp Assist the Area Director with the paperwork that must be done before kids go to camp Work with the team to develop key prayer strategies o pray for kids to sign up for camp o pray for the campers and leaders during the week of camp o pray for all the campers after they return home Ensure that the campers write a post card of thanks to local donors and supporters Understands the huge impact a camp experience can have on a kid s life Is an motivator Has good organizational skills Able to fundraise TIME REQUIREMENT: 4+ Hours Per Month; More Time Needed In Months Leading Up To Summer

The Bocce Tournament is an important event each year in our local area. The tournament serves our community by bringing together friends of Young Life to raise financial support. While the money raised is the reason why we hold this event, we also care about having an event that is well organized, well run, and enjoyed by everyone who attends. By doing this, we can assure that people will continue to come year after year to support our cause. The Bocce Tournament Champion oversees the entire event, along with the area director, by providing leadership and direction for all of the tasks involved with our tournament.
