SGS Overview SGS MISSION SGS provides the bridge between research and practice, translating and applying knowledge in the field of aging. SGS ARTICLES OF INCORPORATION (July 1979) To promote communications among all individuals concerned with the status of older people To develop plans for an annual regional meeting to systematically address current issues in the field SGS is the only remaining regional gerontological society and we are thriving due much in part to partnerships with state organizations such as Georgia Gerontology Society. 2

SGS Journals Journal of Applied Gerontology (JAG) Launched in 1982; official journal of SGS. Focuses on the application of knowledge and insights from research and practice to improve the quality of life of older persons. Particularly those that enhance dialogue among researchers, policy makers, and practitioners. Available free online exclusively to SGS members; ability to access current content as well as back issues to 1999. Gerontology and Geriatric Medicine Interdisciplinary, peer-reviewed, Gold open access journal from SAGE, sponsored by the Southern Gerontological Society. Southern Gerontologist quarterly newsletter Complements JAG by providing updates on applied projects, current activities and emerging issues, and informing members of new books and videos of interest to the field of aging. 5
